Lanza Unfiltered Ep001: Chili's Waitress & Making A Murderer w/Aaron Bentley

Post by Joe Lanza » Fri Feb 26, 2016 6:10 pm

Lanza Unfiltered legal expert and professional ambulance chaser Aaron Bentley joins Joe to discuss Making A Murderer. The Lanza & Bentley law firm break down the series from top to bottom, including the absurdly incompetent investigation, absurdly incompetent trials, and absurdly incompetent brain of "Mr. WrestleMania" Brendan Dassey. The inaugural episode kicks off with Joe's infamous story of the Asian Chili's Waitress and a bag full of coconut oil.

1. Chili's Waitress

2. Lanza Unfiltered

3. Introduction

4. The Worst Three Minutes of Your Life

5. Making a Murderer w/Aaron Bentley

6. This is the End

Yoga pants are great... So are Asians.

Very entertaining, loved the Making a Murderer segment especially. I'm not going to say there weren't moments where I cringed, and it's totally one for the headphones, but I very much enjoyed it and the two hours flew by.

This was such a great listen. I have been anticipating Lanza Unfiltered since its first mention on the flagship show. I loved the cold open- such a funny, dirty story. HJ porn isn't a category that I often peruse, however, I will never disappear down that rabbit hole again! I'm afraid that I can't make the same promise for the Asian section... The Making a Murderer conversation was very entertaining as well. I was a big fan of the show and enjoy hearing different perspectives on it. It's interesting how people interpret certain pieces of evidence and aspects of the story in totally different ways. I think that's a big reason that the show was such a hit. The podcast was well worth the wait. I am definitely looking forward to future episodes.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. I think the quality of each show will largely be determined by how interested you are in the guest topic, but hopefully we'll find a way to make anything interesting.

Oh and I forgot to say, the logo is utterly brilliant.

For what it's worth I've always referred to the shirt/no pants gimmick as "Porky Pigging."

That was quite the story to start the podcast. I suppose there are many worse ways one could get conned by someone.

100% Rich Kraetsch on that one. He came up with a great concept for sure.

He bugged me for weeks if not months to come up with a logo...branding, yadda yadda,...I had nothing. He whipped that shit up the day of the fucking release. Tremendous job.

Pretty fun show, and as someone who has watched maybe 30 seconds of MAM, I was pretty entertained, though I don't know how much I'd like to listen to hour long breakdowns of other things I don't know or care about.

One thing that I couldn't stop noticing though - the way your S's come through in the audio is abrasive and harsh as fuck. I don't know what exactly you're supposed to do to fix it, but I assume there's a way. S's and P's are tricky for audio but I think there's technology that takes the edge off. Or maybe I don't. Idk.

Sibilance is a pain. There are De-Esser plugins that can alleviate some of the harshness, but they're not always perfect. I usually go in and lower the "sizzle" sounds manually when I'm recording voice overs. Plosive "P" sounds need to be fixed manually, usually by putting a low frequency cut on the affected area.

Whomever edits the podcasts (Rich?) would have to take some time to listen through and fix them if that becomes a priority. Or hey, I'll volunteer.

I edit the flagship VOW podcast but not the others, they are independently edited by those who host them. I've never heard this complaint for any of our other 'casts is this an across the board discuss or something with this particular episode of LU?

I edited this episode and listened to different sections, but not the entire episode. i didn't notice anything out of the ordinary with sibilance issues, so they weren't specifically addressed. Sorry if you didn't enjoy the audio production.

I actually thought overall it was the best Joe's ever sounded, but with that came the sibilance issue and I just assumed it was a result of the rest sounding so clear.
