Best Brawler/Brody Foley Award

Post by Joe Lanza » Mon Nov 05, 2018 9:49 pm

LA Park and PCO have to be favorites.

Tomohiro Ishii always does well, and I suspect Rush will too on the back of the Park tags. Nick Gage, Kevin Owens for falling off of things, and of course...

Takeda.

Takeda should probably win, but i'm not sure people will consider what he does "brawling" in the classic sense, plus Big Japan's exposure hurts. His deathmaches feel like insanely paced workrate matches with weapons.

I'm voting Takeda, I think.

A weird award in the modern context.

Janela and Callihan should be considered too.

Is Takeda on the Meltzer or Observer reader radar at all?

Janela & Callihan are good shouts here. I feel like I review three Sami matches per week. I don't like him, but I have to be fair and admit that he's had a solid year, particularly in Impact. You could argue he's the Impact MVP.

I've got two Takeda matches at ***** & ****3/4, and i'm someone who dislikes the style and basically forces myself to watch. People rave about his entire year. I can't remember if dave ever watched the hyped stuff or talked about it.

What's the sense on Walter? On the one hand, his work is stiff as hell and he succeeds/fails on how much of a beating he can inflict. On the other hand, I'm not sure he fits the standard "brawler" ethos like a Janela or the others mentioned here.
