I had slightly bent the rules the year Cole went in, I admit. Because I didn't really consider CZW major league and it was his DGUSA/ROH appearances that were major. But I didn't necessarily break the rules. By interpretation of what Dave wrote as a debut with a "major" company. But the rules change as the business changes.

So I'd nominate PB Smooth, who is an AIW student out of Erie, PA, if AIW is considered major. They are a respected indy, so I'd say they qualify just as if AAW or CZW do.

Takato Nakano made his debut today on BASARAs Korakuen Hall show, and looked very impressive.

At this point, Austin Theory would have to be a lock for rookie of the year.

Would it be a push to suggest Kid Lykos for this? It depends how you consider ATTACK! as a company, but he's come into prominence since September making a statement in Fight Club: PRO and PROGRESS, the first you could argue having bigger visibility (he only started with them this year), and the latter definitely being bigger.

per technical rules, yeah. Per what I'd vote for, no. I try to stay away from guys who I know have been having matches for years.

NJPW newbies:

Tetsuhiro Yagi - 9 May 2017
Ren Narita - 4 July 2017

I like the look of both. Narita went to a draw in his debut, I'm not sure how rare that actually is but felt like a pretty interesting move.

If Lio Rush counted as a rookie last year (he did), then I'm considering Hana Kimura this year. She's got so much charisma and carries herself like a star. She's already really good. Also, she portrays very different characters depending on where she works.

Travis Huckabee anyone? I know Chikara has been off most people's radars the past few years (mine included), but seeing them live for King of Trios I couldn't help but notice how awesome Travis Huckabee was. The guy wrestles like he's been doing it for years. I wondered why I'd never heard of him before and when I went to do some researching I found he doesn't even have a profile on Cagematch. As far as I can tell made his debut last December which would make him eligible for rookie of the year. Maybe someone else on here who still keeps up with Chikara regularly can provide more info and suggest a couple more matches of his.

seems kinda pointless to namedrop her since she's joshi, but I'd throw Tam Nakano out there. She's a rookie under Dave rules. She's already really good. I might sneak her into my third spot.

Does NWL count as a major promotion? Anthony Gutierrez has been great all year.

The list gets sent to dave, fwiw. Also the point is to raise awareness, you never know who will seek these people out.

Keep 'em coming.
