Kota Ibushi

Post by elloziom » Sat Sep 02, 2017 5:43 am

Kota was a part of 3 Junior tag league tournaments during which he had this famous match with him & Fuji vs Kenta & Ishimori. Outside of that he also did a few shows, but none of his matches really mattered anything. Similar to Miyahara I think this probably going to be more of a what if thread since Noah in 2008-09 had both of them doing tours and today they are 2 of the biggest stars in Japan not signed to NJPW (or at least not for a regular contract). Just imagine that maybe in some alter universe instead of Nakajima vs Edwards main eventing Korakuen Hall in front of less than 1000 people, we could have had Ibushi vs Miyahara.....

Ibushi will be very tricky to assess in that he's obviously been a mega star elsewhere, which skews your perspective, and while he did have matches that resonate here, particularly the legendary tag referenced in the OP, he doesn't have the meaty resume you would like to see for something like this, and lacks the big time singles bouts to make up for it.

Just checked, and this is pretty amazing, but in 30 matches spread over a half dozen years, Ibushi worked ONE singles match for the company (a mid card bout vs Kotoge at the 2012 Great Voyage show in Sumo Hall).
