Daisuke Sekimoto

Post by ThommyGunn » Fri Jul 24, 2015 3:07 pm

Hey all, I recently got into Japanese Wrestling in the last year and have thoroughly enjoyed the blessed splendor that is NJPW. But one name I'm not the most familiar with, that I keep seeing rave reviews for again and again is Daisuke Sekimoto. Is there any one out there who would be willing to link some of his best work here? I'm interested in getting into some of the more physical stuff out there and he seems like the best. I am here to learn!

Well he recently had a big main event with his protege and tag partner Okabayashi that's well worth a watch. I wouldn't say it's his very best work, but it's very good and also has the bonus of being current.

Everything from his All Japan run with Yuji Okabayashi is at least good. Like this:

Also Sekimoto vs. Ishii from 2005 in a match of two absolute hard hitters. Haven't seen the match in a while, but I believe it was good:

This one is from last year. Unbelievably great match against Shinobu:

Unfortunately I didn't find his match against Kota Ibushi vom 2010. That was a violent beating if there ever was one.

Take a look through our Match of the Month project. Here's the link to June's results. There are direct links to every month at the top. Sekimoto has had a few matches through 2015 that you should check out.

You started out at the wrong time when Samurai TV just about wiped out all the good stuff. But there are still a handful great matches although not his best that are still available.

I wrote a big feature on him for Fighting Spirit Magazine a year or two back. He's my favourite current wrestler and is a lock for a top 15 spot on my Greatest Wrestler Ever list when I publish it next year.

First started hearing about him in 2006/2007, and became a big fan. Saw him live in 2009 on his first trip to Europe for wXw and he was incredible. He got over HUGE to a fanbase that were completely unfamiliar with him. He came back multiple times and even held their main title at one point. He also got over on his trips to the US for Chikara (King Of Trios 2010 stuff is awesome).

there's some great stuff involving him that's on non-DM/YT sites. Check these out for sure:

Sekimoto is one of my favorite wrestlers of the last couple of years. He's also one of my favorite guys to use in FPR as well.

BTW, that Zero 1 trios match from 2006 is just great stuff. So so good!

I was trying to find this one yesterday, Strong BJ (Daisuke Sekimoto & Yuji Okabayashi) vs. Twin Towers (Shuji Ishikawa & Kohei Sato) from BJW 5/28/15:
