Puro Indie Match of The Year Tracking Thread

Post by ChutiyaHogaTeraBaap » Sat Jun 25, 2016 5:21 am

I feel Puro Indies(All non-Joshi promotions in Japan excluding NJPW and DG) are very poorly represented in year end wrestling awards, especially in the MOTY section. So it would be a good idea to keep a track of all puro indie MOTYC's . This would make it easier for more-casual puro fans to check out these matches and include them their rankings.

MY TOP 5 (As of 25 June 2016)

1) Go/Okabayashi vs Hino/Sekioto from Fortune Dream 3 ****3/4

2) Miyohara/Sekimoto from AJPW Korakuen 5/25 ****1/2

3) Ishikawa/Kamitani from BJW Strong Climb Finals ****1/2

4) Okabayashi/Ishikawa from BJW Endless Survivor ****1/2

5) Miyohara/Mashimo from AJPW Chapion Carnival ****1/2

I'm not comfortable calling AJPW & NOAH indies, even though realistically that's what they are these days.

Is there an agreeable definition of what an indie promotion is? Is it based purely on lack of shareholders or something more holistic?

Great thread btw, always good to have more graps recommemded

In any case, I did not want to delve into the literal definition of indies. The sole purpose of this thread was to get more eyes on underappreciated promotions. The debate will always be whether some promotions are indie or not. As a rule of thumb, I suggest you consider all those promotions independent, where the only way to legally watch them outside of Japan is on the russian tube.

I've put together a youtube playlist of some of the matches mentioned above:

A great idea so thank you. I just about manage to keep up with NOAH but everything else tends to be a blur, especially this time of year. So thanks!

Allan, stop. I'll die of shame if you keep adding easy to find video playlists to my backlog.

But, if AJPW continues it's upward surge and can stabilize with some of the free agents leaving W1 then everyone should keep it's eyes focused there.
