The roll out of this was interesting in that it gave no new info for those who've been paying attention, was done at a very inopportune time of day (most of the target audience were asleep) and left details scant for a full week.

Not sure why you would do things that way and not make it a bigger deal. Also, a big name signing announcement or announcing the date and location of Double or Nothing would have been more of a 'blockbuster' than what we got.

All Elite have an extreme need to stay in the news cycle and feel relevant (at least until they can lock in a long term TV deal), and they're probably not running a show for months. If they talked about signings and a location in that announcement, they don't really have a lot more to talk about until the show. All In was slow played in terms of announcements, but tickets went fast then so no one really cared.

You're dead on, with regards to the news cycle. They need to keep their names out there so people don't forget about them (and people can move on quickly in wrestling fandom).

I understand the above point, but wouldn't a more clear statement, released at a time when more people were online and at least giving a little taste for the fans while saving the rest for the 8th done just that?

Letting Meltzer let most of the details out was also a bad look on all sides part.

I really don't get why you're arguing Midnight on New Year's Eve is a bad time when it obviously makes a big statement to start the new year, and even if you went to bed, the news wasn't any less impactful when you read it in the morning.

Midnight pacific time on NYE isn't exactly a prime time to announce a US based decision. Most people were drunk or asleep. And that's honestly a lesser issue than the lack of content.

So it looks like they're aiming for this to be the retirement home for people from WWE. This will look impactful short term, but it will be a bad thing in the long run. WWE is not going to like this ofcourse, but they should actually embrace it. One of the long term contributers to the destruction of their competitors for the past 25 years has been their over-reliance on WWE names. It's never a good thing to have the perception that your the WWE wasteland. This helped WWE in the long run against WCW and TNA on Spike.

Overall, it's bad to put more focus on sticking it to your opposition than anything else. Hell, I think this is actually playing a role in a lot of WWE's current problems. Instead of focusing on grooming for the future or looking for talent with qualities that can draw masses they're more worried about poaching from other places so they can keep collecting shiny toys. It's the reason why the PC doesn't develop any future stars. They just focus on raiding from places that put more emphasis on movesets and great matches than they do with characters and promos.

There's alot we don't know yet, even beyond "who are they gonna sign":

- Will there be a TV deal and a weekly show? Which channel? How many live events v taped?
- If there's no TV deal (yet), do they start out online on say, Hulu? Youtube? We know they can get six figures worth of viewers

We can rule out any channel related to FOX or USA, they're too big, and they're in bed with WWE
The Pop and Pursuits of the world are too smalltime
I think even AXS is too niche

WGN? TNT? Those are channels with significant national reach

Making things official shouldn't be dismissed as nothing just because we read news reports. I don't recall All In becoming official being met with "eh, we knew they were planning a 10K show already, yawn." Trademarks are just trademarks until they're used, so it's good they finally reached a fireworks factory once they were legally able to. And only a one week wait for more info seems way quicker than how things had been going in recent months.

Wonder what Tenille Dashwood's status is . . . she'd be another good option in their Women's division

Do I understand it correctly that actually Cody, the Bucks and the other wrestlers signed contracts just the last days with AEW? So that means they are actually not stakeholders of AEW but rather the Khan family owns AEW and they are just contracted?

It looks like their first show isn't until June per Meltzer, so I don't mind them slowly rolling things out. I'm intrigued to see what kind of stuff they do, and really hoping they offer basic things like health benefits that wrestlers have needed for years. I think these guys will put out an intriguing product, hoping they become a legitimately viable option, they should have the money and Cody and the Bucks seem to have really good minds for the business.
