All I know is I wish Puma King would win a lawsuit against LU and it somehow leading to him getting a push in CMLL (or anywhere). He's way better than Prince Puma or Ricochet.

Ricochet as Ricochet is probably one of my 5 least favorite current wrestlers, and in his more toned down Prince Puma work he's tolerable to me and had a legitimately great match so it's fine either way to me. But even if he still sucked, to me the fact that they have monsters, intergender wrestling, and the mythos has spiraled out of control (the whole Black Lotus deal in particular) are all much more worrying things to me for this show's quality than whether Ricochet can be slightly more dynamic or not.

Lucha Underground 7/22

-El Texano Jr. as a face...stop.
-The Gift of the Gods title is actually a really cool idea with great execution.
-Loved the final sell for Ultima Lucha. To the point.

Lucia Underground is the pinnacle of professional wrestling episodic television. No other wrestling related show on TV has even come remotely close to the product of LU. A few months ago there was a span of 4-5 episodes where almost every match on a LU show would be **** or more. That is unheard of. NXT is the only other show that could possibly even contest with LU. But even NXT, when talking about WEEKLY EPISODIC TELEVISION pales in comparison. LU has taken risks, broken barriers, and provided the most entertaining wrestling show I have ever seen. Super excited for Ultima Lucha!

That Cage/Mack match was something spectacular. Might have even surpassed Grave Consequences as my all time favorite LU match. Just stellar, I had it at ****1/2 and wouldn't argue with a ****3/4. Amazing!

Cage/Mack was awesome to watch. Reminded me of a modern updated version the old ECW Arena brawls that ended up on the crow's nest.

The trios match was one Angelico crazy dive surrounded by utter shit, with a garbage finish. Maybe my least favorite non squash of the entire LU run.

Also, LU was the best run of Hernandez's career, which may not be saying much, but i'm higher on him than most and he was legitimately very good here when most people groaned at his arrival.

The Mack vs. Cage ****1/2 (what a goddamn sprint scuffle!)
Trios Title *** (the Catrina/Ivelisse ending was super)
Drago vs. Shaun **** (immensely fun blow-off)

Also the Matanza/Dragon/Lotus/White Hoodie story... Great, great episode!

They better announce Season 2 next week, otherwise...

I couldn't stop laughing at the GenPop'rs during the Believers Backlash match...holy shit, their awkwardness has me fall out of my chair...especially Hot Tub guy...please gif his girly swats with the strap. Oh man, I was dying. Hilarious shit.

Loved Cage v. Mack. Lanza hit the nail on the head...it was one of those old ECW New Jack v. Sandman type of matches...just hitting each other and throwing each other around with random shit before the ridiculous ending.

Trios match was ok...but I marked out at another Angelico dive.

Overall, it seems a lot was cut, which knocked a few of these matches down a peg or two...but oh man was it fun. Ultima Lucha, as an entire event might be up for show of the year if it keeps pace.

I also love the narrative of the whole show, so the cut scenes were great, too.

Instead of being super vague and having your gimmick talking head take shots at Meltzer, maybe they should put everyone at ease and just announce something already.

The problem, of course, is that they have nothing to announce because as of this moment the show isn't coming back.

What is the beef with dave anyway? He has reported that the show has yet to be renewed for S2. Which is true. If the show is coming back, hold a presser and tell everybody it's coming back. Until then, none of this "we'll show you, you'll see!" Stevie Richards shit means anything.

If the show is dead they won't say it until the last episode airs obviously.

I remember hearing that the final scene of the final episode is a

I don't know if for sure that's the last scene - it'd make most sense, but it could be something in the Lotus/Azteca plot. It's definitely in the last show the way they did it.

Here's the thing: obviously that Dario bit was taped months ago, because they packed away that office months ago (and they're not going to bring in Dario for a 4 minute web piece months after the fact; that was done some time during Ultima Lucha week.) It has nothing to do with a season 2, except they probably figured they would've announced a season 2 by the time it aired.

It might be a Dave reference, but not to anything recent - it seemed a reference to a similar speech Dario made way back in episode 3 (when Dave and me and other people were ripping the lack of luchadors on a lucha show). Dario said a lot of stuff that was specific call backs to other speeches he'd made in previous episodes, except some of those haven't aired in reruns since November and people don't get the context. This is one of those reasons why they should've aired the old episodes, but at least they haven't sent me a takedown notice yet.

Season 2: I feel like Sunday is the better drop dead date for renewal than UltimaLucha. We all believe the funding plan is a deal with Televisa in Mexico, AAA has TripleMaia on Sunday, that's a good place to make a big announcement for a Mexico deal. I don't know that'll happen, I'm only getting the slightest hints that anything is going on, but at least it'd make some sense. What I fear is going to happen is it's not going to get renewed, but it's not going to get outright canceled either, and it'll sit in limbo for a long period of time while still tying up everyone working for the show.

the best hopeful sign I can come up with at the moment is it's weird that an executive producer would agree to a reddit AMA for Friday if all he was going to be able to say is "no word yet, but we haven't given up", but I'm kind of over sign reading.

EDIT: almost forgot - there's like a 5% chance I'm about to look like a chump on my "Ricochet will never appear unmasked on this show" prediction. Or at least that's all I can figure out of what they teased about the end of this week's episode. Hyped.

Part 2 of Ultima Lucha is your definite and strong Show of the Year contender. I don't really know what to say right now, tbf, I feel so fucking happy and overwhelmed. I thing I reached nirvana. Among the clouds. I assume this is how heroin users feel after taking a shot.

Thank you, Lucha Underground, it's been a helluva ride. One of the greatest wrestling experiences ever. I felt like a kid all over again. I'm blessed and thankful.
