Re: Shinya Hashimoto vs. Hiroshi Hase (NJPW 12/13/94)
Watched this for the first time last week and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Keep in mind these are two of my favorite wrestlers ever. I came in with very high expectations.
I liked a lot of the work on the mat that they did early on. They probably could've shaved a few minutes off of it to get to some more STUFF, but I say that about every match. I really dig Hash on the canvas. I know some people don't like him in that regard, but I like his aggressive. His dumb luck, almost. Hase is much more skilled on the mat, but that doesn't stop Hashimoto from doing his best to #grapplefuck with him.
If you hate fun (aka some well-timed fighting spirit spots) then you won't like this. Hase has a string of no-selling/fighting spirits spots that I think add a ton to the match.
Hashimoto busts out a spinning kick towards the finish that made me jump off of my couch, also. I rewatched it a few times. The match is worth watching for that kick alone. ****3/4
