Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels (WWE 04/05/09)

Post by Wiretaup » Wed Oct 21, 2015 4:42 pm

This match has never clicked with me like it did with everyone else.

I think of any Undertaker match, the streak had never been safer in my mind. Even the one with Mark Henry seemed more open-ended, because I read something about Khali possibly debuting by costing Taker the streak.

So the second half of the match just registers as finisher spamming to me. It was hard to buy into any of the near falls, because c'mon. Shawn Michaels? He don't need that shit. He don't care.

Still a great match. Just not an all time legendary bout for me.

As a kid growing up, these two were my idols. The streak was something magical, and to see them go at it, with the story driven entrances and great in ring work, this match really left a mark on me at a young age. The story, the characters, the layout, the execution, I really think this match was perfect in all those aspects.
The name's David Perez, but you can call me David Purorez (GET ITTTTT?)

I have no problem calling this my favorite WWE match of all time. I remember watching this with my brother and us just losing our minds. Even watching it now i still love this match. I didn't go in to Mania 25 expecting anything as good as these two put on and it's something that will always stick with me when I look back on my wrestling fandom.

This is classic. WWE storytelling at its finest. The pacing was so fluid, I loved it. I had both this and the following years matches at ****3/4. And I'm not sure if any of you guys registered this, but Shawn's emotional storytelling is ridiculous because of this: If you watch his facial expression before the first Taker match during Taker's entrance, he is defiant, bold, unphased, and gallant. He refuses to be intimidated by this man. He is the showstopper! The 26 match starts with Shawn in the ring with a sharp change in expression. No longer is he the rebellious performer of old, he is scared. HBK is truly afraid and saddened. You can see in his eyes that he is afraid that this might be his last stand. These pictures were worth a thousand holds. This, coupled with the beauty of the in -ring violence, and you've got two of the best WWE matches......Matches ever.
