UFC 205 - 2016 Thread

Post by phenom951 » Fri Nov 11, 2016 6:55 pm

Figured we could use a new UFC Thread as the big show is upon us tomorrow. Plus I'm just really loving the UFC at the moment with the exception of fighters missing weight and USADA suspensions but the latter is a necessary thing.

First up let's talk 205 (card and weight results below) Which fight(s) are you most excited for and whom do you predict will win those fights?

UFC 205 Main Card (PPV at 10 p.m. ET)

Eddie Alvarez (154.6) vs. Conor McGregor (154.4)
Tyron Woodley (169.8) vs. Stephen Thompson (169)
Joanna Jedrzejczyk (114.4) vs. Karolina Kowalkiewicz (114.4)
Chris Weidman (185.8) vs. Yoel Romero (185.6)
Kelvin Gastelum vs. Donald Cerrone (170.4) Canceled due to Gastelum missing weight (hoping this means Frankie and Stephens gets moved up to the main card)
Miesha Tate (135.6) vs. Raquel Pennington (135.6)

UFC 205 TV Preliminary Card (FOX Sports 1 at 8 p.m. ET)

Frankie Edgar (145.4) vs. Jeremy Stephens (145.8)
Khabib Nurmagomedov (155.8) vs. Michael Johnson (155.8)
Rafael Natal (185.4) vs. Tim Boetsch (185.4)
Vicente Luque (170.6) vs. Belal Muhammad (170)

UFC 205 Fight Pass Preliminary Card (UFC Fight Pass at 7 p.m. ET)

Jim Miller vs. Thiago Alves (162.6)* - Alves missed weight but the fight is still on
Liz Carmouche (134.8) vs. Katlyn Chookagian (135)

Fights I'm most excited for are Frankie/Stephens (can't not love a Frankie Edgar fight), Wonderboy/Woodley and of course the main event. Now as for predictions:

1. Alvarez (TKO in the 3rd via ground and pound)
2. Woodley (KO in the 1st)
3. Karolina (split decision)
4. Weidman (TKO in the 3rd)
5. Tate (split decision)
6. Frankie (unanimous decision)
7. Michael Johnson (KO in the 3rd)
8. Natal (3rd rd Submission)
9. Luque (1st rd submission)
10. Miller (1st rd KO)
11. Chookagian (unanimous decision)

And that's a wrap.

I haven't watched a card in months but I'm heading to BWW with my old fight crew for this one.

Last I read, they aren't moving another fight to the main card. Really bummed about that Cerrone fight. I wanted to see how he handled someone as big as Gastelum. It was going to be an excellent barometer for both guys.

I'm really nervous for Conor tonight. I'm not a big Alvarez fan, but this is a pretty good match-up for him. Eddie took dos Anjos down once, Pettis down six times and Gilbert down three times. Does Conor have the gas tank to recover if Eddie does that early? It's a lot different carrying Chad Mendes for a round, compared to Eddie. Conor might box his face off early, but I have a sneaky feeling this is Eddie's fight.

I'm hoping Wonderboy wins, but Woodley can crack. My hope is Wonderboy is too technical to get hit with the bomb. We'll see.

Joanna.

Praying for a Weidman victory. There's money to be made in Weidman/Bisping. There's intrigue in Rockhold vs. either winner. But Romero is absolutely terrifying, so who knows where this goes.

Yeah I don't see this fight ending well for Conor either. But personally I think he's been too clownish in this build up so I'm hoping eddie wins. Not to mention a victory here for Conor may have him abandon the featherweight division entirely and I selfishly wanna see a rematch with Aldo in a unification bout.

Didn't watch UFC 208 because it looked like crap but I made it to the bar for 209. I thought it was a pretty good card outside of the main event. Woodley didn't win that match imo. Should of been another draw or a Thompson decision.

I gave it to Woodley simply because I refuse to score that first rd for Wonderboy. there was like 6 strikes combined in that rd and just because Wonderboy got 4 of the 6, doesn't make it a 10-9 for me. Scored it 10-10. You then have Wonderboy win 2 more of the 3 and 10-8 for Woodley in the 5th and I've got it 48-47 for Woodley. Honestly it's time to move on anyway. Wonderboy didn't look hungry or aggressive at all. Fighting like it was a non title fight in fact. The way I look at it, he blew his opportunity and he's gotta work for rematch all over again.

I agree that the 1st round was 10-10. I was rooting for WB but I think it's time for Maia to get a shot.

Ah yes. The UFC where McGregor showed Alvarez who daddy really was.
