Re: Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker (WWF 10/05/97)

One of many Shawn matches that I don't get the praise for. It's far from an actively bad match, but I was rather underwhelmed when I last watched it. At times it looks like Shawn isn't quite sure of what he wishes to do, and changes his mind mid-setup. Equally, there's quite a good few moments where...

Re: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Kota Ibushi (NJPW 01/04/15)

Ibushi's best performance to date, and Nakamura's annual reminder of how great he can be. These two slug the living shit out of each other at points and it's glorious. Exactly what juniour Ibushi had to deliver in showing he could hang with the big boys. As someone who pens Ibushi as mostly terrible...

Re: Jumbo Tsuruta vs. Terry Funk (AJPW 06/11/76)

Interesting to see Bill put this down as "having a shot" when he called it one of a few all-time level bouts from the '76 crop a little while back. These guys had two matches together. Both are now on tape. One's possibly my favourite ever match and the other is a fantastic Funk performance with a g...

Re: Undertaker vs. CM Punk (WWE 04/07/13)

I remember writing up an essay worth on this, after I watched it, but I should, perhaps, spare you all the read. It truly felt like a big-time match, and one of two great performances for CM Punk in 2013. I recall a lot of criticism stemming from Undertaker not properly selling a GTS down the stretc...

Re: Adam Cole & Kyle O'Reilly vs. Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson vs. Player Uno & Player Dos (PWG 07/21/12)

This was a weird time. SSB came in, delivered some of the nuttiest spotfests of the decade and then had visa issues and just completely died out as a thing. The Death To All But Metal tag started off quite yawn-inducing before it hit the right gear, but this was balls-out the entire stretch. I've si...

Re: Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio Jr. (WCW 10/26/97)

If you ever want to get a hint at how crisp Rey is, this is the match. Maybe he's had a few more impressive spots strewn across his AAA run, but I cannot think of a match where he's this flashy, and this crisp for as long as he is. Eddie as a dick heel certainly helped shape the match, but there was...

Re: Wargames (WCW 05/17/92)

Even better than the 1991 Wargames match. The little touches like Paul E. taking his team through strategy play-by-plays and Rude working Steamboat's injured nose in a chokehold really helped cement this match for me. It's the little things, I tells ya! Beyond a couple stalls toward the end, this is...

Re: Sami Zayn vs. Cesaro (WWE 02/27/14)

Second best match of 2014 and, like Bill, this is one of my personal favourites. Near perfect, and an artwork of traditional wrestling that I love beyond measure. Zayn gets a lot of praise for his face in peril skills but none more so deserved than in this match. For my money, this is his career per...

Re: El Generico vs. Kevin Steen (PWG 10/22/11)

No shot.

I loved the bajeesus out of it when I watched it "in real time", but it definitely fell off on subsequent rewatches. Still, there's lots of ill-advisable, nutty bumps that cement the sheer hatred between each man with a post-match promo pun that would make Becky Lynch smile.
