Re: Adam Cole & Kyle O'Reilly vs. Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson vs. Player Uno & Player Dos (PWG 07/21/12)

I caught this last night. It's still as go-go-go as I remember it being, and the bumps are still recklessly fun. There's quite the fair bit of stalls to allow spots to happen, and that sucks, especially in a workrate match like this as it kills the flow, but the ideas here were cool. Knox' bladejob ...

Re: Dr. Wagner Jr. vs. LA Park (TxT 05/11/13)

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CNVoutRUEAAprUV.jpg No words can encapsulate a match quite like that photo does. It's a half hour of spectacularly brutal violence within Mexico's greatest Indy feud. They brawl and bleed across the entire arena and not once does it play into the trope of learned helples...

Re: Masakatsu Funaki vs. Tatsuo Nakano (UWF 07/27/89)

Full disclosure, while I may be fan of the technical intricacies Fujiwara et al bring, my heart belongs more to the violent spectacle of shoot-style. Funaki may not be a slam-dunk wrestler in the environ (I can see argument that he relies too much on levering a match into his comfort zones), but he'...

Re: TNA 2015: It still exists, kind of!

Not to rehash old waters, but why didn't their planned tour of China work out? Judging by the reception/turnout Evolve got, it seemed an actually smart move for a quick cash injection (if nothing else).

Re: Let's bury the World Wrestling Federation....

I'm not sure Raw has been any worse than the dogshit we were being fed a few months ago, but what hampers it is that it continually feels stilted and frustrating. Everything they work towards, they undo the week after. Their post-PPV shows are just rematches with the loser now winning. It's nothing ...

Re: Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon (WWF 03/28/96)

Is there another singles match of theirs that this alludes to? The video happened 20th March 1994. Definitely has a shot, though it's not the greatest ladder match I've ever seen. Still, a great match, with tremendous heat, and both men work both very hard and show a lot of logic in the way they wor...

Re: Mitsuharu Misawa & Jun Akiyama vs. Shinya Hashimoto & Yuji Nagata (Zero-One 03/02/01)

Doing Ditch's Best of 2000s poll, this ended second for 2001 but I'd put the Araya tag quite comfortably ahead. There's a few great matches it has to contended with in 2001, alone, nevermind "all time", so I'm not sure this would crack my list. Just think, this is the second and last time Hashimoto ...

Re: Buddy Rogers vs. Pat O'Connor (Chicago 6/30/61)

"To a nicer guy, it couldn't happen" One of the most iconic lines in the history of wrestling, and this is the match that accompanies it. Is the quality as transcendent through time as Rogers' words, though? You betcha it is! This will not be an absolute top tier finish, but both men, barring a nigg...

Re: Verne Gagne vs. Red Bastien (Chicago 1950s)

Red Bastien may be more known to some as Texas Red (no, not The Undertaker). Just to think, he used to be a small yet strapping man at one point. Match takes place in the late 50s, and is an exhibition bout aimed to let an up-and-comer, fresh out of training, get a chance at the big leagues. Of cour...

Re: Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, & Erick Rowan vs. Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins, & Roman Reigns (WWE 02/23/14)

These guys had three matches on live TV and each one made my top 20 for 2014. Whoever the road agent was in putting together these matches needs to be commended, because their mind for contemporary wrestling is almost second to none. I also cannot count how many of their house show matches I caught....

Re: AJ Styles vs. Minoru Suzuki (NJPW 08/01/14)

Barely squeezed out my top 15 for last year. Probably disqualifies it from the list, thus. Kind of a strange character portrayal here by AJ. He's been working this cocksure, insulting foreigner heel (that the crowd never quite boos) yet seemed to forget all of that mid-match. I would perhaps have le...
