Re: PROGRESS 2017 Year In Review - A PWPonderings/Indy Corner Collaboration

Hey, I really liked this podcast, thanks for plugging it here. I dropped out of watching PROGRESS and meant to get back on the horse but as this podcast covered, nothing that was happening in there really enticed me to catch up (except maybe the SPPT re-debut). Always appreciated Benno's "fan but no...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Marty is also the lovable goofball on BTE, with a very weird relationship with Kenny that seems like admiration or even a crush. Depending on which version of Scurll they go with, I could see him swinging either way. In NJPW he is dastardly but not in a way that isn't already half-way babyface, so I...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Forgive my ignorance, I didn't start watch wrestling in earnest until 2013. Is the Kenny/Kota story-line that they are gay for each other? Are they actual lovers? Is it an athletic rivalry coupled with deep romance? It's intentional ambiguity that hints at "more than friends". In DDT they were kayf...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Very tired due to a busy weekend which ended with desperately trying to catch up on these two shows so I'll be concise for once. Tanahashi vs Suzuki was great. Loved the finish and excited by the result. Loved RPG3K vs Bucks. Agree with Frank the WK12 match was tighter but I was invested throughout ...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Apparently, there is a rumour about Drone being drunk on a Fantasticamania show. Is there any truth to this? Until somebody backstage leaks dirt, no way to be absolutely sure. With that said, somebody did a supercut of his botches during the match and it makes a pretty compelling case for him being...

Re: All In: September 1

The BTE marketing/teasing has been pretty interesting. Drug-free could refer to either of the dream picks in Danielson or Punk, but it could also be a total red herring, since Kenny and the Bucks don't drink or do drugs either, so The Elite is by itself drug-free. The Page vs Joey Ryan story is obvi...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

I was more engaged for last year's and the year before that's Fantasticamania shows. These were fine but I always enjoy the mix of talent, since I'm not a huge lucha person in general. With that said, these were fun shows, especially when the production side finally understood that dubbed themes are...

Re: VOW Flagship: EVOLVE Weekend, 205 Live, NWA Empty Arena & more!

And while yes, good plunder relies on good psychology and good execution and all of those things, a wise man once said "remember when is the lowest form of conversation", and similarly, deathmatch is the lowest form of pro wrestling. Anyone can do it and it's the easiest thing to do well. I don't t...

Re: VOW Flagship: EVOLVE Weekend, 205 Live, NWA Empty Arena & more!

Great show. So refreshing to hear a show lead by not WWE and not even NJPW, even if I'm a person who has seen max 3 EVOLVE shows in my life, I really enjoyed hearing the talk about it. Same with NWA, really fun to hear about even though I've not kept up. I've long thought that match quality doesn't ...

Re: VOW Flagship: EVOLVE Weekend, 205 Live, NWA Empty Arena & more!

I can't agree with Joe enough about Jimmy Lloyd and more specifically professionalism in appearance and physique in indy wrestling. I debate this with Brandon Howard usually in the context of access to steroids, time to embrace bodybuilding training, eating, and rest in addition to wrestling traini...

Re: Game Changer Wrestling

I need to see it on tape, but Gage vs. Tremont was much more of a drawn out, epic thing with different stages and was much more brutal. The BJW match was more of a very good wrestling match with deathmatch elements. My initial thought is that Gage vs. Tremont was better, but that has to do with mor...

Re: What's Your Match of the Year Process

To me the themes of 2017 were the rise of the unlikely freakshow/spectacle match, the beautiful tragic failures of men chasing ultimately unachievable (at least in 2017) goals and the return of the great pairs/traveling match. The bulk of my top ten will speak to these themes, because that is what ...

Re: All In: September 1

Unless something significant has changed, Bucks are part-owners/investors in PWG (they joked on an old podcast "That's why we never lose there"). Of course there could always be new drama that made them sever ties or change their agreement with Excalibur & Super Dragon but I wouldn't put money on it...

Seconded, or I guess thirded at this point! This was so much fun.

I think my favorite from the DDT tournament was Bailey vs Sakaguchi, with Sasaki vs Ishikawa a very close second.

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

The new Talk is Jericho with Kenny Omega as the guest is well worth a listen. They break down how the angle came together, why Omega came out in that weird Egyptian God outfit, which of the match's big spots were planned in advance and which were improvised on the spot, and detail various ways that...
