Re: The Lucha Underground Thread

The episode was a ton of fun to begin with, but the last five minutes left me gasping. Wow.

Re: The BritWres thread (Big Daddy for HoF)

So what's the final take on 5* Wrestling? I'm mostly confused. You run big arenas with big names, dream matches, then you fail to pack them (as can be expected), they're supposedly promotion for a videogame but according to some people at the shows the video game was barely mentioned. I'm sure they ...

Re: VOW Flagship: Wrestling Observer Awards & Royal Rumble 2016

Nitpicky but: Mark Dallas is the owner/booker for ICW, not PROGRESS, which is owned by three dudes, but I don't know if anybody knows who's the booker among them, or if they all contribute. I know the official Progress historian/insider/commentator C Leslie visits these boards so maybe he'd know. I ...

Re: PROGRESS Thread: The Fake Taxi of Wrestling

I think it'll be a good show, too. Ospreay/Scurll should deliver (though I can take or leave the stipulation), Haskins vs Gibson I am really excited for and it is great to see the women of the ProJo again on the chapter shows. The main event from ENDVR:13 was a really good match (a tag between Jinny...

Re: WWE Royal Rumble 2016

Due to very odd work schedules I'll be lucky to see the first half of the Royal Rumble match before I run to catch a bus, but hopefully it'll be a good one. I've only watched WWE regularly since mid-2013 so the only satisfying and good Rumble matches I've actually seen have been ones I've checked ou...

Re: Revolution Pro Wrestling

Watched High Stakes on VOD after reading so much of the hype and hearing the card breakdown on BritWres Roundtable. Well worth the money I spent on it, honestly. I had some minor quibbles about some of the matches, like I wish Bailey vs Damo had flowed better, and I wasn't a huge fan of the kind of ...

Re: PROGRESS Thread: The Fake Taxi of Wrestling

BritWres Roundtable was discussing how clashes might end up affecting booking. I guess this might be an early sign?

Re: NOAH, IWGP IC Title situation, All Japan, and is Sasha Banks a viable WOTY?

There is a larger trend in culture where people anoint somebody as the Greatest Thing Of All Time and then when that person falls short of those expectations, the tide turns and they became the topic of derision, ridicule and outright hatred. Jennifer Lawrence is a good example of an It Girl who was...

Re: NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 10 (Official Discussion)

I had nothing better to do and it was too cold to go outside on Saturday so I took the time to watch all the Okada/Tanahashi matches in chronological order, back to back, finishing with the WK10 one. I think my favourite of their matches remains Invasion Attack, with G1 draw and Dominion very close ...

Re: WWE raids NJPW talent

I doubt Nakamura's fluent, as mentioned previously he probably speaks "wrestler English", enough to be understood but not enough to discuss politics. Some random tidbits of English I remember was him misspelling CHAOS on the CHAOS Vol 3 DVD that yottsume (RIP) translated (admittedly spelling is hard...

Re: NJPW Roster Turmoil & Wrestle Kingdom 10 Review

In my (limited) watching of the DDT DNA guys, I have to say I kind of agree with the lack of charisma. I started to think about the DDT main roster guys and I think there is a bit of a blandness there, even with guys I really really like, such as Tetsuya Endo or Konosuke Takeshita. Then again, both ...

Re: WWE raids NJPW talent

Some folks are speculating that in case of Fale and Tama Tonga it's more about getting a better deal out of NJPW in terms of their spot on the card and money than going to Florida (though Tama already lives there so why not I guess?). I joked to a friend that this is really all a ploy for Gallows an...

Re: NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 10 (Official Discussion)

Shame about the English commentary not being up to snuff. The Japanese side was a dream, with Liger freaking out with his infectious enthusiasm. (And according to E Key Oide's translation, some good points were made by him and Chono, too.)

Okada vs Tanahashi was my favorite of the night by a mile.

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

I have a legitimate question about pay/contract structure on NJPW. Is it finances that are swaying gaijins to leave New Japan or is it more the booking? I was under the impression that gaijins on tours were making decent money, and even Gallows, without a premium contract, was making a buttload on w...

How do you disable the twitter sidebar?
There is a tiny bar above it with an "X" on it. Click on that, and it goes away.
