Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

I will say I genuinely have no clue whether Ibushi is signed or not, and what kind of a deal. I wouldn't completely exclude the possibility of a part-time ish deal for this guy. Somebody pointed out that Ibushi worked a lot of dates last year for somebody freelance. He did about as many as when he w...

Re: VOW Flagship: Honor Rising, Elimination Chamber & more!

Fun show as usual! I think Hirooki Goto + Korakuen Hall crowd is gonna do wonders for anybody, but I gotta hand it to BCB. I think he did a good job on both nights. Lowered expectations help, obviously, but he was good. Like Joe, I was disappointed by Flip on Night 1. He did better on Night 2, and I...

Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

Josh Bodom vs Koji Iwamoto was announced for 3/25 show. For those not aware of Bodom's work in the UK, he's been an up-and-coming jr heavy heel in RevPro for a while. One of the most technically sound guys on their roster as well as a great heel. He got genuine heat from me the one time I saw him li...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

I don't doubt we'll get good matches, even underrated ones (everybody forgets about the Shibata vs Ishii and Ishii vs SANADA bouts from last year's Cup, both which I loved the hell out of) but the Cup is always weird. It's always full of possibility and ends up being good, not great. Most Cup finals...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Jay Lethal surprised me as well. He's always been solid, good but has never enjoyed tremendous reactions in Japan. This time he was over like a motherfucker! Wonder what happened. He put in good effort as well. I loved that Cody got the appropriate heel reactions during these shows, made it all the ...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Finlay/Juice vs Bucks was a lot of fun. Kushida vs Hiromu vs Flip I wanted to like a lot but felt underwhelmed by. Flip turned me into a selling fetishist unexpectedly half-way through the match. I think he's good but he's got ways to go. Goto got a good match out of BCB, who I have never seen befor...

Re: The Most Underrated Pro Wrestling Country

I think Germany is starting to pick up awareness, at least in the circles I travel in, so I went for Australia. To me what always stands out about German talent or Euro talent primarily working in Germany is the level of talent and well-roundedness. wXw runs long tours that allow their students to w...

Re: VOW Flagship: New Beginning in Osaka, EVOLVE Weekend & more!

"Your Uncle Detective Dan Barry" was a great segment. Had I clipz skills I would clip it ASAP. I'm the biggest Ospreay defender next to Joe but he is also indeed a huge doofus who often puts his foot in it. I think it's age but it's also just his persona; being young is not always an excuse, because...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Yikes, working full time again has really cut into my "thinking too much about NJPW" time. Let's try to get all these out in one post. 1. The AUS tour is a weird one, but I'm happy for the Australian fans. The venue sizes were obviously out of whack and the graphics design team was not up to snuff (...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

That said, I agree with suplexberry that SANADA seems to be lacking that x-factor that makes a wrestler a true star. Superficially he has many of the qualities that a top guy in New Japan needs - the matinee idol look, the in-ring skills, etc. - but he still comes off as someone with no real person...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Boy, was I not feeling this show today. I can't even explain it anyway with a quirk of mood or real life stuff. I'm stressed out but usually that's when wrestling hits me the hardest, because I need that escapism the most. This show underdelivered big time for me. To start with the good, I love the ...

Re: VOW Flagship: 205 Live The Reborn, New Beginning Osaka, AJPW & more!

That Vince rant gave me life. I got not a whole lot to add to it because the wasted potential of modern WWE is such a downer topic for me. The rise of Bryan is what got me back into wrestling but the way they handled it alienated me from actually enjoying the product. Glad the 205 guys are getting a...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

I love the idea of Jay shit-stirring but I don't think Ishii would be the type of person you could do it with, as a character. Ishii's forty two years young, seen it all, knows who he is, what his style is. If he does win Cup and challenge, he'll do it on his own terms, not because of outside influe...

Re: VOW Flagship: TakeOver, Royal Rumble, New Beginning & more

Great show! I watched Almas vs Gargano, one of the few WWE matches I've seen in the past two months or so. Great stuff. More than Gargano I focused on Almas, it's so great he's on top of his game and people are catching up. So happy he's found his groove. I loved the little Naito tribute to pieces a...

Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

All Japan is a weird one for me right now. I generally really love the tops of their cards and the talent they have, and the way that they use the top four in Ishikawa, Kento, SUWAMA and Doering, especially in the tag division. The mid-card is also generally really good and they consistently seem to...
