Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

Real good show today from Hakata Star Lanes. Seems like they burned through most of the lesser match ups early and we are now heading into the business end of things. There are still a few matches that will be not as good left but there are better match ups as well on the cards to even things out. K...

Can't really be compared. Strong Climb is almost over and the Carnival is just starting.

Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

1290 fans for the opening day of the Carnival in Sendai. This venue was much better than the Saitama one and the crowd was miced up a lot better so the matches felt more lively just by being able to hear the crowd. Would not say no to the Sun Plaza becoming a venue for major shows. Ebina had his deb...

Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

A new class of 3 students reported to the AJPW dojo earlier this week.

Set your prayer engines to intense that an entire class makes it through training this time

Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

Looked up Kento and Zeus' singles record against each other. Since both joined AJP they have wrestled 1 on 1 3 times. The first being a time limit draw. The second one went to Kento for the Triple Crown and the third went to Zeus in last year's carnival

Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

And then Zeus picked up the win in the big Champion carnival multi-man tag main event by pinning Kento. He then declared that his goal was winning the carnival and challenging for the belt Having Kento take the pin the first match after winning the TC seems very weird to me. It's standard AJP booki...

Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

Iwamoto beat Keichii Sato today at Shin Kiba and post match asked Keichii how long he was going to stay in Kotaro Suzuki's shadow. Then we got Josh Bodom challenging for the junior belt with Aoki accepting it under the condition that he earn it during the rest of the tour. And then Zeus picked up th...

Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

Bodom is obviously there on a try out and if he impresses he will be brought back. Danny Jones said himself on Flash Morgan Webster's pod that they are working to bring him back some time this year but they need to work out a schedule that works and get the visa and such approved before they announc...

Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

The championships and the tournaments are starting to feel like props to me. Well it is wrestling so technically they are. I get what you are saying but it is very much a catch 22. To retire belts or give them up is seen as failure. And if they book too many short runs they get flack for that, and ...

Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

It's a downside of having a small roster I guess. Downside of AJPW having too many titles for so small a roster. We're at 2 AA titles, 3 World titles plus a GAORA title. And then there's the !BANG! title whenever Dory comes by for a tour. And of course, there's five yearly tournaments. Passing the ...

Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

Kento/Zeus in Osaka seems like the logical play (if you indeed want the belt on Zeus, an idea i'm OK with but not as sold on as others), and it's what i'd probably do, but the recent booking patterns concern me. As mentioned before, they seem to like to set up singles stuff with a tag run, and they...

Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

I think Zeus will be the one to take it off Kento this time. But it won't be as a result of him winning the carnival. I think Marufuji wins the carnival since he is entering it for the first time in his 20th anniversary year. But AJPW are running a big show at the bigger Edion Arena in Osaka on July...

Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

This was my first AJPW show in some time. Do they normally have that set-up with the crowd so far away from the ring? I loved everything after intermission but was very underwhelmed by the first half of the show. Is that typical, or will those matches offer more of interest as I get familiar with d...

Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

History question, but does anyone know what the AJPW junior division was looking like in 1999/2000. I know there was Ogawa, Fuchi, Kanemaru, Kakihara, KENTA and Marufuji, and that occasionally Hayabusa wandered in with Jinsei Shinzaki for All-Asia Tag Team matches, but was that about it or did some...

Re: NOAH - Who is NOAH's savior??

Ishimori leaving NOAH is obviously a sizeable blow for them. He was a focal point in their junior division for quite some time and argument could be made that he WAS the junior division after the Burning exodus. But the addition of the Ratels guys, Ohara and Kumano helps soften the blow. He's not as...
