Re: VOW Flagship (2/7): Call for Questions

If you had to choose 5 promotions to watch, but the catch is they are the ONLY promotions you could watch, which would you pick? For this sake, we'll say that WWE includes all of the subsidiaries (but not PROGRESS/EVOLVE/wXw) and DDT does the same with TJP/BASARA/etc. Also keep in mind this is a per...

Re: VOW 2018 MOTY Discussion

Haven't seen the top 10 since I'm not a patreon, but my personal top 10 1. Zeus vs Miyahara 10/21 (*****) 2. Minoru Suzuki vs Hirooki Goto (****3/4) 3. Masashi Takeda vs Jun Kasai (the first one, ****3/4) 4. Black Danger/Mirage/Ultimo Maldito vs Arkangel Divinio/Black Destiny/Genio del Aire 4/20 (**...

Re: VOW Flagship: Bouncin' Around Titan, Rush, ROH roster & more!

I think the way he approaches matches is just always going to be antithetical to the way modern workrate fans look at matches. Not that he can't do great workrate stuff, because he can. But he's always worried first about getting heat, playing to the crowd, getting his storyline over, cutting promo...

Re: VOW Flagship: Bouncin' Around Titan, Rush, ROH roster & more!

The "still waiting on Rush to crack ***1/4" thing is just a gentle reminder of how people can approach and appreciate wrestling in completely different ways. Some people love the greatest brawler in the world who can get heat with any crowd despite being a mega star to the level where he gets pops ...

Re: The JOSHI thread

Yeah Maki seems like the logical choice based on the early shows. The only reason I could see them holding off is if they want to build her up a little more, but I think a rocket push for her would make perfect sense right now. She's looked awesome.

Re: VOW Flagship: AEW Rally, Wrestle Kingdom 13 & more!

Hard agree on some of the missteps re: the way women's wrestling was presented at AEW. The women's pay thing was one thing (and the weird woke branding behind the whole thing seemed odd to me) but also Brandi Rhodes being sort of in charge of women's wrestling (when she's never shown an iota of tale...

Re: VOW Flagship: The Wrestle Kingdom Preview

I think, IF he could have put on a little weight, it would have been a nice story and maybe you could have developed a nice gatekeeper ultra babyface at the bottom of the card for up and coming heels. This is what people don't seem to understand about my point. I think he could do all of those thin...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Good not great show. I think the pacing did help a lot of matches but nothing before the last three matches went over ***1/2 for me, and some of it (Cody/Juice, KUSHIDA/Ishimori) was straight up bad. I do think the top three matches delivering helped it a ton, with the semi-main standing out as the ...

Re: VOW Flagship: The Wrestle Kingdom Preview

I get what you guys mean about juniors being placed highly and can headline or co-headline bigger shows now, but between this and the book (where Joe went on a very long tirade about how Gedo's booking of juniors is good, actually), I think you guys are putting a little bit too much stock in little ...

Re: King's Road - The All Japan Thread

Not surprising or anything but good on AJPW for starting off with two more top to bottom good shows in 2019. The junior title match is basically already a lock for the most underrated match of the year (I actually would peg it as a low end MOTYC), the TC match was great with KAI once again showing u...

Re: VOW Flagship: NOAH Great Voyage, Tanahashi vs Omega WOTY, Gedo & Jado, Thursday TV Reviews

The ShuPro poll is another nice get for Takeda. For a guy without a lengthy popular history in Japan, he’s already one of the biggest stars in the entire country. Also worth pointing out in that poll is Marufuji, who has been a HUGE draw this year in multiple promotions. One thing about something J...

Re: VOW Flagship: NOAH Great Voyage, Tanahashi vs Omega WOTY, Gedo & Jado, Thursday TV Reviews

Cannot fathom how anyone would view Tanahashi as a legit WOTY candidate from a Thesz/Flair perspective. Laid an egg (his fault or not) on the biggest show of the year. The Suzuki match was mediocre, his G1 was pretty ho-hum outside of the money matches, and the Okada match post-G1 was the worst of t...
