Re: All Elite Wrestling (Discussion)

My main takeaway from watching the show is that the production REALLY overuses the cutaways to "shocked Undertaker streak fan" reactions. I get that WWE do it too, so it's not an AEW invention, but the last few minutes of Riho/Nyla in particular was to the point where they cut to at least one and of...

Re: WWE (Discussion)

As someone who's been watching a bunch of ECW recently, I can't think of a single example of a promiscuous female turning on her man and linking up with someone else under Heyman's watch. I certainly haven't just sat through weeks of Gertner insinuating Francine is cheating on Tommy with Raven, only...

Re: Official All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Thread

So you do the chair shot, but you can't do the follow-up anyway. Unless they were just so tone-deaf that they assumed people wouldn't take issue with it, it's a bit of a lack of foresight, right? And even if you do, it's going to be some kind of weird blurring of kayfabe that no-one buys and you're...

Re: Official All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Thread

Seems like an issue of trying to have your cake and eat it. They want to do some big shocking angle for heat, but they also want to be seen as being progressive and 'better' than the competition, so they can't risk upsetting people. They presumably want to give the impression that Shawn Spears was S...

Re: WWE NXT 2019 (A-show schedule in OP)

Garza seemed to have a ton of charisma. If they can put all the pieces together and flesh out an actual character for him, he's got real potential. I wasn't so keen on Wilde as a babyface, I get why he is, but I didn't come away with any real interest in what he does next in this role.

Re: Official WWE Thread

Ospreay won in the eyes of the gallery he's playing to. I'm sure Rollins won to his gallery.

This is what wrestling and wrestling fandom is now.

Re: Official All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Thread

I think Cody's a good worker. But at the same time, I'd caution giving him too much credit on the back of what was basically the optimal match for him to have, with the blood, the family drama and emotions and the perfect captive audience. Dustin Rhodes might well be his best opponent and best tag ...

Re: Official All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Thread

I think Cody's always been a good worker, it's just what people do and don't look for I suppose. The star rating thing was always a bit of a red herring to me. He was working to a different audience, but he was always adept at what he was actually doing- it's just that that wasn't 'the star rating' ...

Re: The MLW Thread

I also watched the Battle Riot show and the thing with Cornette is, while he's clearly not bad and he's being a pro (mostly), I can't shake the fact that it's Jim Cornette and he clearly hates some of what he's calling. He wasn't exactly shy about it in the Jimmy Havoc match, which is fine, but it i...

Re: WWE WrestleMania 35 - April 7, 2019

So finally finishing off the show, maybe the main event was a lot better for watching it on a Tuesday evening but I really enjoyed it until the finish. Seemed like there was a lot working against it, between the obvious, plus minor stuff like Cole's voice being shot and the table not breaking perfec...

Re: WWE WrestleMania 35 - April 7, 2019

Oh, I get the benefits of running two nights, I just think if people are holding out hope that two nights equals shorter shows they might be disappointed.

I agree that splitting it over two nights might well result in better shows.

Re: WWE WrestleMania 35 - April 7, 2019

If they split it into two nights, I don't think they're taking 8 hours and splitting it in two anyway. They want the big pre-game, the day long focus of attention on Twitter, the hours of content for the Network. They could do two shows with 20 matches, but they could also just as easily fill those ...

Re: WWE NXT 2019 (A-show schedule in OP)

I enjoyed 3 of the 5 and the other two were objectively good, I guess. Thought the tag and the main were both fantastic and enjoyed the women's match. Riddle and Dream I found weird, purely because Riddle was acting weird. He seemed to be working heel, or de-facto heel, to the point that I completel...

Re: VOW Flagship: Fastlane, NJ Cup, Wally Yamaguchi & more!

You know Joe and I well enough to know that we don't ape Bryan/Dave. Wasn't meant as a direct comp, FWIW. Just that it's one of those things that seems to permeate through wrestling fandom and seems to trace back to "plans change" becoming a, for lack of better term, meme. You will never be able to...

Re: VOW Flagship: Fastlane, NJ Cup, Wally Yamaguchi & more!

"They didn't plan this, it fell in their lap." To which I say-so fucking what? I'm tired of the downplaying of good unanticipated booking because it wasn't the original plan or retroactively saying things were failures because the first attempt to get a wrestler or storyline over failed. Wrestling ...
