Re: All Elite Wrestling (Discussion)

The thing that impressed me most about last night's episode of Dynamite was just how incredibly over Private Party were by the end of that tag team tournament match. These are guys who were basically unknowns even on an indie level until a few months ago, and here they were getting cheered against t...

Re: Getting Into Classic Joshi

I've reached the point in joshi history where I can use Niagradriver 93's very helpful Joshi Puroresu Recommended Viewing List, which can be found at this link and which contains YouTube links to each of the following matches. I'll still be checking out some matches off of the list here and there if...

Re: All Elite Wrestling (Discussion)

First episode of Dynamite was pretty strong. The presentation was really good for the most part. The huge filled arena looked great, and I like the colorful lighting scheme they used. Commentary was okay, although I still think that having three people at the table, especially when all of them are e...

Re: VOW Flagship: The Fiend, New TV Landscape, NJPW, ROH

This is why I sometimes wonder about wrestling matches being "agented". Like, yes, there is a good side to guys being told, "don't do X because X is gonna be the spot in the main event" but other times, a wrestler should be able to just think of how the wrestling ties into his character and make it...

Re: NJPW (Discussion)

a simple one would be to watch both Will and Shingo's BOSJ and G1 run Thanks. I've got that down on my list. But wouldn't you know, I got a mail from NJPW today saying that my credit card had expired. Now, I see from their sign up that they are a bit sneaky as if I sign up again now, I'll be billed...

Re: NJPW (Discussion)

Damn, I didn't even realize until today that New Japan uploaded all of the house show Young Lions Cup matches which I had for some reason assumed were just going to go untelevized. It's funny that they presented that tournament so much better than they did the Super J Cup. Are there any Young Lions ...

Re: NJPW (Discussion)

Watched the Super J Cup today and found it mostly underwhelming. The lackluster way that the shows were released (several weeks after they took place, with the second show inexplicably presented single cam despite there being two ringside cameramen) certainly didn't help. It's obviously a lot toughe...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Just binge-watched all of the Young Lions Cup matches to this point and I'm really enjoying the tournament so far. I didn't even watch that much of the previous YLC, as I was never that big a fan of Kitamura or Oka, and while I loved Kawato his main appeal was as an underdog wrestling veterans. But ...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Royal Quest was a fun show overall, but there were a lot of issues with the presentation. Delaying its arrival on New Japan World for a few days when it was taking place the same day as two of the other biggest companies in the world were running live PPV-level events made the show feel minor league...

All Japan Women TV Documentary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0hZDuYwoGTw&t=14s Before I get to the matches from 1991 I want to highlight this very interesting French TV documentary, available on YouTube with English subtitles, from a news show called LE MAGAZINE DU GRAND REPORTAGE. It’s likely th...

Re: Official All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Thread

I agree with BoxingRobes, I thought ALL OUT was a great show overall. All of the matches felt distinct from each other and I thought most of them delivered at or above expectations. The show did feel a bit dragged out and I still think the commentary is problematic. Golden Boy actually did a pretty ...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Great - Kota Ibushi vs. Jay White Despite what looked on paper like a one match card this whole G1 Finals show was really excellent. I'm really glad that I resisted the urge to fast forward straight to the main event, both because the undercard tags were mostly really strong, and because it would ha...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Good - Jeff Cobb vs. Toru Yano Very Good - Jay White vs. Tetsuya Naito Great - Taichi vs. Tomohiro Ishii, Juice Robinson vs. Jon Moxley, Shingo Takagi vs. Hirooki Goto Wow. I always knew that there was a possibility of White defeating Naito either to spoil him or win the block, but to see it actuall...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Mediocre - Bad Luck Fale vs. SANADA Very Good - Lance Archer vs. EVIL Great - Zack Sabre Jr vs. KENTA, Will Ospreay vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi, Kota Ibushi vs. Kazuchika Okada I really don't understand the point of Fale pinning SANADA. It seems like Fale's story in this tournament was supposed to be that...

Good - Toru Yano vs. Taichi, Tetsuya Naito vs. Jeff Cobb, Hirooki Goto vs. Jon Moxley Great - Jay White vs. Juice Robinson, Shingo Takagi vs. Tomohiro Ishii Shingo vs. Ishii was definitely the best “two tough guys beating the shit out of each other” match of the tournament, and probably the best New...
