Re: Most Outstanding
Seeing as he has, in my view, four ***** matches this year, it's hard for me to look past Kazuchika Okada as #1, but that isn't very interesting so I thought I'd bring up several names I feel deserve to be in the discussion - if not for #1 then for second or third place votes. Tomohiro Ishii - The m...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread
I noticed Joe mentioned that Hirooki Goto is a sneaky pick to win this tournament before losing the briefcase to Naito, and with Goto being in the A Block there is, I think, a possibility that this happens: Goto has a fairly easy block - Ishii, Fale, Tonga, Sanada, and Makabe are all very beatable ...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread
I thought a Tenzan miracle run was possible until I saw the schedule - his matches with Okada and Tanahashi aren't main events, so I wouldn't expect any huge upsets. I see him starting off well but fading into the middle of the pack, as if they had big plans they would put him in a big position.

Re: NJPW World recommendations
I've watched everything up to 1981, and a lot of it is just Inoki shoot-style matches but there are several matches worth checking out: Antonio Inoki vs Billy Robinson (12/11/1975) - This is REALLY long but the last 20 minutes or so are excellent. Tatsumi Fujinami vs Ryuma Go (7/27/1978) - Old schoo...

Isami Kodaka vs Hiroshi Fukuda from 3/13 was a low-end match of the month contender, check it out.

Shibata/Kojima 3/19. One of the best matches this entire year.

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread
I'd have to talk to someone who understands the Japanese fanbase, but is there a possibility that a lot of Nakamura fans have or will turn to Naito? Naito has only really been getting positive crowd reactions since Nakamura left, and there is the same edge to his character that separates him from gu...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread
I wouldn't be surprised if Shibata-Tenzan headlines the Wrestling Hinokuni show on 4/29 rather than being another undercard title match on an already packed Sumo Hall show.
I think the Invasion Attack lineup is strong enough with Okada/Naito and Tanahashi/Fale as the main matches.

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread
yeah, seems obvious that it will be a 6-man match to build an IC title match. that's what they always do I had a thought that maybe they could wind up doing a Never 6-man title match with the Elite vs. Michael Elgin/reDRagon at Invasion Attack since none of those guys have anything scheduled yet fo...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread
I think you have Tanahashi semi-main against Naito and his crew with Okada/Omega on top. Putting Tanahashi on top again defeats the purpose of passing the torch, and right now New Japan needs to build their new main eventers, starting with Omega. I don't see the problem being Omega's drawing potenti...
