Re: VOW Flagship (2/7): Call for Questions

In the Observer that dropped last night Meltzer said WWE officials met with Japanese companies about cooperating and eventually leading the way to set up a NXT Japan.

Which companies do you think WWE talked to, and are there any Japanese promotions that you hope stay the hell away from WWE?

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that dropped early AM EST this morning, Dave said that he'd be adding Gedo to the HOF ballot next year based on his run as a booker in NJPW. Given how long this strong run of his with the book has been, and barring any massive screw ups in NJPW this year, I thi...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

WTL has some interesting looking stuff, but overall I'm kinda let down. No Golden Lovers. ZSJ teaming with Taichi instead of Suzuki. Iizuka being in the damn tournament. Looking forward to the teams of Umino & Yoshida and Juice & Finlay though. Also Hangman working the tour while the other Elite are...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

lol another 3 way for the junior tag titles at the dome. Has anyone tried to explain Gedo's logic on that stuff? I would probably disagree but I'm genuinely curious what in Gedo's world view has him keep booking these multi-team matches? And under different cirumstances like Hiromu not getting injur...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Meanwhile it seems like they have been trying to cram two years of storylines for Kenny Omega into one year because they are afraid that he might jump ship after the Tokyo Dome. So instead of the extended Golden Lovers tag team run that it seemed like we were going to get at one time and that could...

Does anyone know why NJPW is running these "Lion's Break Project" shows?
Because Bushiroad is running a convention based on their trading card game at the same time. The NJ stuff is an added attraction. https://www.charaexpo-usa.com/

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Given the arc of the Cody vs. Juice feud, I think a rematch is likely for the Tokyo Dome especially given it's where Cody first beat Juice. I think Juice's loss in Long Beach is part of underdog storyline. Plus often with New Japan singles titles, your first reign with a title doesn't last long.

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

After reading the predictions at VOW, am I the only one who thinks Juice is beating Cody? I know Cody is red hot right now but I thought this was going to be Juice winning to set up a rematch for the NWA title that Cody would then win. It would be a good match to bring the NWA title back to Japan wi...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Yeah, Tanahashi is definitely not going to win, considering that the MSG show is coming up, and would think that they want Kenny going into that show as champion. Tanahashi is great, but not really fitting of headlining this show. I actually made a prediction on this very board that I actually thin...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Yeah I would give Omega vs. Ishii only ****1/4. Good to great match but it was disappointing given what they've done before. It could have been 10 minutes shorter and should have been structured more like US tournament finals or their G1 match. A more frenetic pace in those matches worked and in the...

Re: NOAH - Who is NOAH's savior??

Loved Marufuji vs. KENTA for the nostalgia. I think the emotion of it made up for anything that was lacking in the ring (though I'd still argue the match was very good). Seeing Kawada and Kobashi on commentary definitely gave me the feels.

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Yeah I agree with you undo is probably a strong word, but it is an objection I've seen in a few quarters. I don't necessarily have an issue with Tanahashi back as the ace because it's definitely a temporary thing. If he doesn't beat Omega at Wrestle Kingdom, I doubt he's ever getting that last run a...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

I know people saying having Tanahashi beat Okada now would undo a lot of the previous booking but what if it's to build to Okada vs. Tanahashi at MSG which will have more impact running it there than if they try to have another rematch after Destruction in Japan. I'm now convinced Tanahashi is beati...

Re: G1 CLIMAX 28

Though the G1 results will probably be obvious once they happen, this year is still more of a question than last. So instead of going the safe route, I went ahead and picked Tanahashi over Naito in the finals. I'm envisioning a 1996 G1 vibe with Riki Choshu. I thought the build to this year's Okada ...

Re: G1 CLIMAX 28

Playing of what was talked about on the Flagship about someone finally dropping the briefcase before WK, how about this. Jay first drops the US title to Juice at the Cow Palace. Jay beats Okada on Night 1 and then wins the G1. This causes dissension in Chaos and then we get Okada vs. Jay, briefcase ...
