Re: VOW Flagship: NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 12 Review

Regarding Budokan, the legit wrestling capacity there is about 12,000 judging by seating information (including standing room) on Budokan's website and an estimation of floor seats from pictures of NOAH shows there. It's not much bigger than Sumo Hall. So keep that in mind so you're not calling the ...

Re: VOW Flagship: G1 Finals Preview, Aussie Scene, Onita & more!

Regarding changes to next year's G1, I think there's a few things NJPW could realistically do. I assume you're aware now but weren't when recording but they're using a 7,500 seat configuration for the first two Sumo Hall shows and the full 11,000 seat configuration for the finals. The difference bei...

Re: VOW Flagship: Elimination Chamber, Deserving Titles, New Beginning & more!

How do you define draw? This is a clever way of denying any value to WWE stars while accentuating New Japan stars even though when you look at the numbers, it's not even close. The Mania you mentioned which didn't fill the stadium had 71,000 fans in attendance-in context, that's several Tokyo Dome ...

Re: VOW Flagship: Elimination Chamber, Deserving Titles, New Beginning & more!

1) In the period mentioned, the WWE title was actually two titles for 3 1/2 of the 6 years mentioned. The 16 guys I listed held the title that Bray currently holds. The list would be much longer if I included the other title. In that time, the IWGP title was defended 32 times TOTAL. New Japan does ...

Re: VOW Flagship: Elimination Chamber, Deserving Titles, New Beginning & more!

Since Satoshi Kojima lost the title on 1/4/2011, only four different guys have held the IWGP Heavyweight title (Tanahashi, Okada, Styles and Naito). 16 different guys held the WWE title in that same time period. (Miz, Cena, Punk, Mysterio, Del Rio, The Rock, Bryan, Orton, Lesnar, Rollins, Reigns, Sh...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Didn't they start doing that two years ago by doubling the shows and giving us 5 a show instead of 10+? Except for 2011, New Japan Cup's format has been the same since 2009. All first round matches on one show, all second round matches on another show and the Semi-Finals and Finals on a third show ...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

On the business side, the show drew 5,545. Just shy of a sell out if I understand the Japanese crowd size designation nonsense correctly. That's right in the line the opening nights of the last two G1 tournaments in the same building that drew 5,533 (Okada/Marufuji and Tanahashi/Sanada) and 5,490 (T...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

I think a lot of this comes down to people tiring of the same guys on top. Maybe it's because I came up in an era of longer title runs and guys like Hogan or Flair dominating title scenes for many years, but personally I'm not even close to being over Okada on top. If NJPW was still building every ...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Yep, he's done it again. https://twitter.com/reasonjp/status/824191417941626881 If New Japan stays hot do they think about running New Beginnings at Jo Hall next year? Being sold out two weeks before the show isn't really what you want since it means paying customers can't get in. That's a pretty b...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

I'll also say, i'm interested in the venues NJPW pulls down since Koff has said it was very challenging finding places for ROH to work out of in CA. Doesn't ROH tape all their shows? Their issue is probably finding buildings that don't look completely minor league. Considering these potential NJPW ...

Re: Strong Style Spirit - New Japan catch all thread

Well, it's certainly the right basic idea if they want to invest money to grow the company in the near future. Unless TV Asahi gives them a better timeslot they're pretty much at or close to their ceiling in Japan. As big as Kidani tends to talk (things like doing a stadium tour) I don't think his a...

wac wrote:I don't think Okada not kicking out of the One Winged Angel is necessarily proof of anything either way. Nakamura didn't kick out of the Styles Clash at last year's Wrestle Kingdom.

Didn't he? IIRC, Styles hit the move fighting out of an armbar or triangle choke and Nakamura kicked out.

Re: VOW Flagship: NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 11 Review

Jut finished the part about the NJPW shows in America, and forgive me if you guys went back to the subject later on, but I'd one up just doing a Okada/Omega match. I'd have Omega win the title there. What better way to make a statement about how serious they are about international expansion than ha...

Re: VOW Flagship: NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 11 Preview

I would rather they elevate the Junior Heavyweight title, Joe. That's hard to pull off. Remember, in Japan NJPW's biggest tv exposure is a half hour weekly show not the full show broadcasts. There's only so many guys they can showcase so it makes the most sense to focus on championships that the sa...
