THE YOUNG BUCKS VS. JON MOXLEY & WILL OSPREAY

One half of the Wembley main event is teaming with his grand poobah against the Young Bucks in this Road To Wembley tag. The Bucks don’t like Mox, and they don’t like that Ospreay’s teaming with him. Sounds like the Bucks are spending more time on Twitter.

ANYWAY, this is a very interesting match as both sides are ramping up to All In. The Bucks are pushing hard for another tag team title match, and Ospreay is obviously getting ready for Kenny Omega. The Continental Champion Jon Moxley is also…uh, what is Mox doing outside of this Will stuff? I guess taking the pin in this tag match. It’s probably time for the Ospreay & Mox partnership to hit a speed bump that drives the eventual divide. My question is how they wrap this up before Wembley, or if this will be Will’s ready-made post-Wembley feud? Does Mox weasel his way into the All In World Title match?

Those are all questions that probably get answered after this defining loss, as the Bucks move forward to the tag team dream match at Wembley. Prediction: The Young Bucks

NO HOLDS BARRED MATCH
“PAINMAKER” CHRIS JERICHO VS. TOMMASO CIAMPA

The Painmaker makes me laugh. A lot. I enjoy Chris Jericho well enough as a midcarder in 2026 AEW. The work has been fine, and he’s not been an overbearing presence on the shows. He’s a midcarder with tenure, and he’s putting in good effort. Tommaso Ciampa jumped him after Jericho finally beat Ricochet, then beat him in a quite good match at Beach Break. Jericho pulled out the PAINMAKER, and now we have a plunder match on this card. Given that Jericho lost at the last Canada show, I’d figure he’d get a win here in Montreal. I’ve got hopes for this one, as this era of Jericho does well in plunder. Prediction: PAINMAKER

DOUBLE CHAIN MATCH
JAY WHITE & JUICE ROBINSON VS. DAVID FINLAY & CLARK CONNORS

Jay White returned at Forbidden Door, and he and David Finlay will continue their career-long feud here in a Double Chain Match alongside their partners. Jay & Juice are a very good team going back to the great Collision series with FTR, so this match could surprise people. I expect juice, I also expect blood, and I expect Jay to pin Finlay to get the return win on PPV. They’ve got some tension brewing between Jay and Christian Cage, so we’ll see where that ends up going. Prediction: Bang Bang Gang

AEW INTERNATIONAL TITLE #1 CONTENDERSHIP LADDER MATCH
THE BEAST MORTOS VS. EL CLON VS. MIKE BAILEY VS. JACK PERRY VS. KOMANDER VS. NICK WAYNE

Six men fight in a ladder match for a shot at the International Title. Alrighty then. Prediction: Mike Bailey

AEW WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
CHRISTIAN CAGE & ADAM COPELAND (C) VS. DEATH RIDERS (CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI & PAC)

Christian and Cope defend their titles against PAC and Claudio, as a side feud from the Bang Bang Gang/Dogs issues. Alrighty then. Prediction: Christian & Cope

AEW NATIONAL TITLE MATCH
MARK DAVIS (C) VS. ANDRADE EL ÍDOLO

Andy The Idol’s focus has shifted from the World Title to taking a title from the Don Callis Family. He’s challenging the excellent Mark Davis for the National Title in another match that outperforms expectations. The chalk answer would be for Andrade to win the title here. But with Grand Slam Mexico coming up on August 5, I’d have Callis cost Andrade this match to set up an Arena Mexico title win for Andrade. Maybe even slap a Title vs. Hair stip on it and have it main event the show. Prediction: Mark Davis

AEW TBS TITLE MATCH
HIKARU SHIDA (C) VS. MAYA WORLD

AEW attempts to keep the ball rolling with Maya World by having her challenge Hikaru Shida for the TBS Title. Shida’s character work has been solid, but it’s also been undone by her complete regression as a worker. I’d belt Maya up to try and make a new name in the division, but that might just be me wanting the belt off Shida by any means. Prediction: Maya World

AEW INTERNATIONAL TITLE MATCH
KYLE FLETCHER (C) VS. BANDIDO

I’m of two minds with this match, as I both love and hate that it’s happening. I hate that the Ring of Honor World Champion is losing again on PPV, as Bandido really has no reason to have that belt. He’s already over, and being ROH World Champion doesn’t help him get more over when the ROH World Champion loses all the time. Why have ROH champions if they’re just going to be “Ace Austin with a belt” on a show that nobody watches? Either treat the ROH champions better, or don’t book them on AEW television. This is an annoying and unproductive middle ground.

I love that this match is happening because it’s Kyle Fletcher and Bandido. Fletcher’s work with the consistently improving Komander showed his capability for working with lucha guys, and I think Bandido is better than Komander. It also pairs a guy who gets real heat in Fletcher against a babyface in Bandido, who has an uncanny ability to sweep fans into his matches and rally them on his side. I think this match is going to be phenomenal, as Fletcher retains to go on as International Champion. Prediction: Kyle Fletcher

AEW WOMEN’S WORLD TITLE MATCH
THEKLA (C) VS. WILLOW NIGHTINGALE

Willow Nightingale returned at Beach Break to earn a shot at the AEW Women’s World Title and the Toxic Spider Thekla. I have some questions on the severity of Willow’s injury, given that it healed up just in time for this show, but I don’t mind getting worked if that is the case.

Thekla has done a great job as champion, but with Mercedes Moné waiting in the wings at All In, it’s clear that Willow will be walking into Wembley as champion. Given that she just spent the better part of a year as champion, and that she may have a Wembley match in line given that the Triangle of Madness won the Artist of Stardom (Trios) Titles, I think Thekla will be fine. She’s been great, and she’s made herself a star in this division in a time when it really needed one. But the money match for Wembley this year is Mone vs. Willow, and that’s the match we’re gonna get. Prediction: Willow Nightingale

AEW WORLD TITLE MATCH
KENNY OMEGA (C) VS. KEVIN KNIGHT

Kenny Omega is once again the AEW World Champion, beating MJF at Beach Break in a Last Chance Match to finish his quest back to the top of the wrestling world. He takes on Kevin Knight in a very interesting matchup on PPV. Reports came out that MJF requested to move his title match up from the originally planned date of this Redemption show to Beach Break (possibly to take more time to heal some nagging injuries before Wembley), making this a late replacement. Given that this may be one of only two PPV defenses for Kenny, I could easily see booking him against a name like Okada or Swerve, given their history.

Instead, AEW chose to put Kevin Knight in this spot, and I love it. As opposed to the ROH Champion losing earlier in the night, I don’t mind champions under the same brand challenging for other belts. It opens the promotion up more instead of cooping people up in their own little cubicles away from each other. Why wouldn’t someone want to be a double champion? These are egomaniac pro wrestlers, of course they’re greedy!

But this feels like a test for Knight, the same way Kyle Fletcher’s main event match against Hangman Page last year felt like a test for him. These are guys who the company believes can run on top one day, so here’s a chance for the fans to see what that looks like and a chance for the promotion to give them the credibility of being a World Title challenger on PPV. This is AEW getting its audience ready to see Knight in spots like this more often, and while it may cost them a short-term blow at the box office, it’s got the potential to do a lot of long-term good.

Omega wins, of course. But I expect the Jet to pass this test with flying colors. Prediction: Kenny Omega
