It’s been an interesting year for TJPW to say the least, their domestic changing of the guard has been coupled with an international presence that appears to be huge in Texas and relatively successful everywhere they go.

When it comes to WrestleMania weekend, I find TJPW is one of the few companies that really makes a considerable effort with their card for Vegas, being one that wouldn’t look out of place in Korakuen Hall.

Blowaway Special Match

Miyu Yamashita, Mizuki, and Miu Watanabe are three of the most reliable wrestlers in the entire company. With all three currently without gold, TJPW has thrown them into a three-way match that is sure to deliver one of the strongest matches of the week.

This kind of format is rare for TJPW; they don’t often run big-time three-way matches, so it will be fun to see how their logical, well-thought-out match structure meets the creativity of a three-way dance. Given the names involved, I have no doubt they’ll deliver something worth watching.

Arai’s V1

Yuki Arai was finally crowned PoP Champion at the recent Sumo Hall show, defeating Miu Watanabe to ascend to a spot that’s been hers to take since retiring from her popular idol group to pursue wrestling full-time. She’s been given a solid, if unspectacular, first defense of outside monster J-Rod.

I quite like this as a match for the live audience, many of whom will get to root for Arai as she battles from underneath against the powerhouse that is J-Rod. We have already seen the American lose a PoP title match this year, as she recently lost to Watanabe, so she’s a pretty acceptable V1 sacrifice to get a match the live crowd should be up for.

International Princess Intrigue

One of the most unexpected developments I noticed in TJPW over the past year or so was the development of one Kaya Toribami. The masked bird went from a decent wrestler with agility to one of TJPW’s most impressive athletes alongside Miyu Yamashita (in a tag team that I’m hoping makes a comeback). This hard work was rewarded with a rebranding, as she re-debuted in Texas under the ninja gimmick Sakura Hattori.

Hattori will take on one of TJPW’s other top wrestlers and brand new champion Suzume in a match that will be make or break for Hattori. If she delivers here, then she can cement herself as one of the top options for one of the titles.
