AEW DYNASTY 2026 ZERO HOUR
ALEX WINDSOR VS. MARINA SHAFIR
This is a match that I never would have considered making, but it makes a ton of sense given the Ospreay/Mox match on the PPV card. A nice little addition to the free pre-show. Windsor is getting the push as part of the Brawling Birds, and since I don’t think her partner will be winning her match, they’ll probably give Windsor a win to continue some form of positive momentum. Prediction: Alex Windsor
CHRIS JERICHO VS. RICOCHET
Chris Jericho made his return to the company after a year-long absence in his hometown of Winnipeg, Manitoba. This match came about after Ricochet interrupted Jericho while he was signing his contract, leading to a callback to The List. Jericho’s playing face right now in Canada, and he’ll beat Ricochet here, which annoys me because I think Ricochet can be in the upper tier of this company. But, more interestingly, there were some hints of heel presentation in Jericho in his promo on Wednesday. All I can hope for this run is that Jericho doesn’t try to be a WORKRATE guy like he was in decades past, as that tends to run its course the longer he’s around and the more worn his body gets. Prediction: Chris Jericho
CASINO GAUNTLET MATCH FOR THE VACANT TNT TITLE
TOMMASO CIAMPA AND RUSH WILL START
Kyle Fletcher suffered what is being reported as a meniscus injury and has vacated the TNT Title as a result. A Casino Gauntlet will crown a new champion. I would have preferred a singles match with Ciampa involved, maybe Ciampa vs. Mark Briscoe as the last two TNT Champions, or Ciampa vs. Speedball Mike Bailey as “top contenders.” But these are always fun time killers, and some undercard feuds can spring out of it. They may want to stick with a heel champ and belt up Ciampa again, but it’s the TNT Title. They can flip it on any Dynamite or Collision, and I’d have no problem with it. Take the easy surprise pop and put the title on Speedball in Canada. Prediction: Speedball Mike Bailey
THE YOUNG BUCKS (MATT & NICK JACKSON) VS. KAZUCHIKA OKADA & KONOSUKE TAKESHITA
The Fletcher injury threw a wrench in the ongoing implosion of the Don Callis Family as well. AEW admitted on screen that this match was going to be the Bucks vs. ProtOkada, with Callis saying the match was in deep negotiations, but they’ve pivoted to Okada & Takeshita teaming up again against the Bucks.
You may see that and groan that Takeshita once again is teaming with a man who’s screwed him out of matches and beaten him up as his tag partner, but with this match change, we’ve also finally gotten some motion on this feud. Callis said that if Takeshita worked together with Okada, he would finally give Takeshita another match with Okada at Double or Nothing for Okada’s International Title. I predicted this feud would end in a three-way match with Fletcher, probably at Wembley, but I’m glad we’re finally moving forward either way.
This match will be fantastic, just look at the names. Given what I think the tag team title scenario will be coming out of this show, the Bucks will win. Hopefully, Takeshita gets some shine on Okada coming out of this match and doesn’t look like a geek again. Prediction: The Young Bucks
AEW WOMEN’S WORLD TITLE MATCH
THEKLA (C) VS. JAMIE HAYTER
The AEW women’s division is in a bit of flux after the sudden…disappearance of Toni Storm. Storm had been aiming for the World Title after Revolution, but with that plan out the window, AEW pivoted to Jamie Hayter. Hayter is the last woman to pin Thekla on PPV, back at WrestleDream in October. I’m glad to see Hayter back in the World Title scene, even if it is only a challenger of the month. But Thekla rocks right now, and it doesn’t feel like the time and place to take the title off her. Another dumb bitch (her words, not mine) falls to the Toxic Spider. Prediction: Thekla
ANDRADE EL ÍDOLO VS. DARBY ALLIN
This is a somewhat de facto #1 contender match for the World Title, as Darby has been promised a shot from both MJF and Kenny Omega if he wins this match. Andrade would probably hop Darby in the rankings with a win…IF WE STILL HAD THE RANKINGS BECAUSE THEY MAKE SENSE IN KAYFABE AND GIVE EVERY MATCH ME[signal dies]
Andrade doesn’t seem keen on this match and just wants to go for the World Title, but MJF has paid Don Callis to take care of Darby here. The result seems obvious here, but the more interesting part will be seeing if Andrade turns on the Callis Family as a result. With the United Empire re-established on AEW TV and Takeshita having his own problems, there are multiple interesting pivots that could be made. As far as Darby goes, he looks set to get a World Title shot in New York, almost two years after he was meant to get one in the same complex at Grand Slam New York against Bryan Danielson. With Darby talking about “winning the big one,” I wouldn’t write off Darby pulling it off at Double or Nothing. Prediction: Darby Allin
AEW CONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH
JON MOXLEY (C) VS. WILL OSPREAY
Will Ospreay is back, and this grudge match has been one of the marquee matches of this month-long PPV cycle. Ospreay hasn’t lost a step after his neck surgery, having a stellar singles match with PAC before slotting back in perfectly with the United Empire on two different continents, so any questions about match output are put to bed.
Moxley has been fascinating in this build, standing back on the heel side of the tweener line by showing no remorse for his actions against Ospreay back at Forbidden Door. He said that Ospreay went into a no-holds-barred cage match because no doctor would clear him, and somehow, Ospreay was surprised that things went wrong. “I will never stand between a man and the consequences of his actions.”
When this match was first announced as a non-title match, I was intrigued at how the finish would play out. Do you beat Ospreay to sell the return from injury, or do you beat a reigning champion on PPV? With Ospreay widely expected to walk out of Wembley as AEW World Champion, do you give Mox a win now to set up a future title defense? The title is now on the line, and the finish feels far clearer, especially after Ospreay pinned Mox in the Chaos in Canada match on Dynamite. Expect a Time Limit Draw and a lot of staring as we somewhat tie this loose end. Prediction: Time Limit Draw
AEW WORLD TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
FTR (CASH WHEELER & DAX HARWOOD) (W/STOKELY) (C) VS. CHRISTIAN CAGE & ADAM COPELAND
This has been a well-booked deal, with the heat angle coming at All Out in Toronto last fall and the presumed payoff coming in Vancouver on Sunday. I’ve got no use for Adam Copeland and his fuck-ass bob, but he and Christian are winning these titles here. There’s a nagging voice in my head that’s whispering, “Look out for Nick Wayne,” but that could be a later defense. You gotta pay it off here and give the 50-year-old Canadian fans their payoff. Plus, with the Bucks entering this orbit, I can see C&C in a TLC in London in a few months’ time. Prediction: Cage & Copeland
AEW WORLD TITLE MATCH
MJF (C) VS. KENNY OMEGA
The main event will see a rematch from the October 28, 2023 Collision, a match which finished #1 in the 4th annual Dynamite Dozen and is one of the best TV matches in AEW history. Yes, I only brought that up to plug the Dynamite Dozen. See you on October 2nd.
AEW has promoted this match as one of the biggest in the promotion’s history, with two excellent video packages on the go-home Dynamite detailing the history each man made as champion and the gobs of accolades between them. It’s the two longest reigning World Champions in this promotion’s history. It’s two men coming in on a hot streak, with Omega beating Swerve Strickland to earn this title shot and MJF having beaten Hangman Page in Texas Death at Revolution. AEW’s current run of good business is coming off this chase for the World Title, which all started with Omega cutting off MJF’s celebration speech after Worlds End and declaring his intentions to win the title.
This introduces an interesting question. Kenny Omega is already an established TOP GUY, all caps. He could lose a million matches in AEW and still be bulletproof. Hell, his push wavered out of the gate in AEW, and he re-established himself as a real deal player in a thirty-second squash against Sonny Kiss. Kenny is made. But Kenny feels hot right now. Kenny has never main-evented an All In stadium show, and the presumed challenger for the title is a man he’s had two highly acclaimed matches against: Will Ospreay. Do you pull the trigger and go with the hot hand?
Or do you stick with MJF and his stellar second reign as World Champion? This run has built a ton of momentum, with babyface challengers coming out of the woodwork. Can that carry on after this show into New York and Wembley in the coming months? Was it all predicated on the hope that Kenny would be the one to end the reign?
My belief is that MJF retains the title here. I can see a story building through MJF’s title reign, as he’ll have beaten the “main character” in Hangman Page and the promotion’s architect in Omega. If my predictions are right, and they usually are, his next defense would be against another strong representative of AEW in Darby Allin. He brought an AEW flag to the top of Mount Everest, for Christ’s sake, he’s in the conversation. MJF is beating these (no pun intended) pillars of the promotion on the way to Wembley. Whoever beats him for the title would truly be ELEVATED into a real deal top guy, on the level of an Omega or a Hangman.
You see what I did there? Elevated? You get it.
Anyway, MJF wins to set up MJF/Darby at Double or Nothing. Prediction: MJF
