WWE spends the Fourth of July weekend doing the most American thing possible: sending work out of the US to maximize profits! WWE’s summer abroad leads them to Toronto for Money in the Bank weekend, with a doubleheader of Money in the Bank on Saturday and NXT Heatwave on Sunday.

KICKOFF SHOW
JACY JAYNE & JAZMYN NYX VS. ARIANNA GRACE & KARMEN PETROVIC

This show is in Toronto. After Toxics #3 & 4 cost her a match on NXT TV, Ontario-native and blade enthusiast Karmen Petrovic wanted to take them both on. That led to Arianna Grace, also from Ontario, to gimmick her way into the match as well. The beauty queen Grace is a full-on comedy character, following in the footsteps of her father Santino Marella, so expect her to get pinned here. Prediction: Jacy Jayne & Jazmyn Nyx

NXT WOMEN’S NORTH AMERICAN TITLE MATCH
KELANI JORDAN (C) VS. SOL RUCA

Ruca beat Arianna Grace to get this title match. These two gymnasts, who are friends, will fight for the Women’s North American Championship at NXT Heatwave 2024.

What do you want from me? This isn’t exactly Ole vs. Dusty. Prediction: Kelani Jordan

NXT TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
AXIOM & NATHAN FRAZER (C) VS. CHASE U (ANDRE CHASE & DUKE HUDSON) (W/RIDGE HOLLAND, RILEY OSBORNE & THEA HAIL)

Axiom & Frazer have been at odds lately. Axiom is focused on the tag titles, while Frazer has tried to get other titles as well. He recently challenged Tony D’Angelo for the Heritage Cup while also looking to be the only person on Earth who cares about WWE Speed.

Meanwhile, Chase U has welcomed Ridge Holland for some reason, and Holland has helped them get this title match by cheating behind Chase’s back. Holland was caught, with Chase telling him to stay home from Heatwave as a result. Figure that into the finish, as some underhandedness will get Chase U their second tag title reign. Prediction: Chase U

NXT NORTH AMERICAN TITLE MATCH
OBA FEMI (C) VS. WES LEE

Wes Lee earned another shot at the North American Championship, this time one-on-one against Oba Femi. Femi has made it clear that this will be Lee’s last chance at the title, adding some intrigue here for the man who made his name as North American Champion. This has some real potential as Lee is one of the best workers in the promotion and has a style that contrasts well with Femi’s basic powerhouse style.

The finish is also in doubt, as this could very easily go either way. Both men could head up to the main NXT Title picture. Lee is talented enough for a main roster call-up, although I don’t know how well his prospects would fare there. I will go with Wes Lee to win the title and have Femi lose his way up to the NXT Title scene. Prediction: Wes Lee

NXT WOMEN’S TITLE MATCH
ROXANNE PEREZ (C) VS. LOLA VICE

Off of her win over Shayna Baszler in NXT Underground, Lola Vice gets a shot at Roxanne Perez and the NXT Women’s Title. Vice hasn’t turned face so much as she’s just feuding with Perez now and getting cheered like always. She did cut an emotionally charged promo about her journey through MMA, having her Olympic training cut off due to her mother’s illness. Vice has got the big push this year, and Perez has done about all she can do in NXT, so I’m picking Vice to win the title here. Prediction: Lola Vice

NXT TITLE FATAL FOUR WAY MATCH
TRICK WILLIAMS (C) VS. SHAWN SPEARS VS. ETHAN PAGE VS. JE’VON EVANS

Follow me here. Je’von Evans, the 123 Kid to Trick’s Razor Ramon, is the new hot young prospect in NXT. He’s had good showings against Williams and Ilja Dragunov since arriving in NXT earlier this year. He recently got into a feud with Shawn Spears, who is doing a worse version of Chris Jericho’s Learning Tree gimmick. Spears is a shady veteran manipulating younger talent, but there’s also a tinge of creepy to it because it’s NXT. Spears beat Evans on NXT on the June 11th NXT.

The next week, Evans won a battle royal for an NXT Title match for this show. However, Ethan Page was unable to participate in it because he got jumped by Oro Mensah beforehand. Page demanded a match against Evans that night, and Page pinned him clean. No one was sure if this was for the title match Evans had just won, and NXT ended with Evans, Spears, Page, & Williams laid out around the title belt. Gee, I wonder what the PPV match will be.

If that wasn’t messy enough, NXT had the bright idea of having SHAWN SPEARS pin Trick Williams on TV, after the interference of spiraling alcoholic Brooks Jensen—not enough time to get into that nonsense. With both champion and challenger beaten before the PPV, NXT GM and professional untalented person Ava made the Heatwave main event a four-way for the title. Spears and Page get a main event in Canada, Evans gets a PPV main event under his belt, and Williams earns another successful title defense.

None of this feels good for Trick, as he continues to be programmed with people beneath him. Evans would have been an exciting challenger, but Spears and Page continue to be the uninteresting JAGs they’ve always been. Williams needs a definitive win here and a compelling challenger next in line, as NXT is in danger of cooling him off. Prediction: Trick Williams
