You know a match is special when the date alone invokes vivid memories. 6/9/95 is the date I most associate with a match—that’s the date of arguably the greatest tag team wrestling match of all time (Mitsuharu Misawa and Kenta Kobashi vs. Toshiaki Kawada and Akira Taue). I’ve written about that match and the significance of June 9 before.

But there’s another “date” match that happened one year and two days earlier—6/3/94. It featured two of the four participants in the 6/5/95 tag match and is considered one of the greatest singles matches in wrestling history.

June 3, 1994.

Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Toshiaki Kawada.

And it happened thirty years ago today.
