Watch: Triller TV

I’ve got to hand it to SPARK. They’ve put together one of the more eye-catching WrestleMania week cards I’ve seen in a while. Pulling together top names from STARDOM, legends like Aja Kong, surprises, and some of the better U.S. indie wrestlers is a recipe for success, as far as I’m concerned.

Full SPARK Joshi Trailblaze 2024 Card

  • Aja Kong & Tam Nakano vs Mina Shirakawa & Janai Kai
  • Kyoko Inoue vs AZM vs Dani Mo
  • SPARK Joshi Pacific Championship: Ram Kaicho (c) vs X
  • Masha Slamovich & Rina Yamashita vs Hyan and Brittany Blake
  • SPARK Joshi Atlantic Championship: SAKI (c) vs Vertvixen
  • Starlight Kid vs X
  • Mayu Iwatani & X vs Konami & X

I don’t know about you, but my eyes are immediately drawn to the two tag matches. Aja Kong and Tam Nakano isn’t a pairing I ever thought I would see and I’m still not really sure what to expect from them. What I am hoping for is an extended sequence involving Shirakawa and Kong. Despite her age, Kong has still got it and Shirakawa is a great underdog who can throw some nice strikes if need be to try and chop down the monster against her. This is a huge match for Janai Kai, who’s sharing the ring with 3 top talents. While I expect she’s there to take the pin, here’s hoping she can show some of the skills she gained from her Japan tours.

Team Iwatani vs. Team Konami will vary radically based on the two chosen teammates. Both Iwatani and Konami will team with wrestlers from the tryout. While I obviously have no idea who’s at the tryout and who will get picked, I do know there are a lot of talented women in the area, so here’s hoping someone like Maya World can get involved in a big match like this.

The rest of the show is OK, I don’t expect anything to make much of an impression on a week as loaded as this one, especially with this show taking place on Sunday when fatigue will definitely set in for some people. AZM’s match is a real head-scratcher because Dani Mo is a stylistic fit for AZM but Kyoko Inoue is certainly not. We’re a long way from the days of Inoue hitting impressive aerial moves with her settling in as more of a powerhouse as the scene has gotten smaller (literally the wrestlers are smaller as AJW exclusively recruited the tallest women they could at their peak).

Starlight Kid is a really good wrestler and her match could definitely steal the show depending on her opponent. I do recall Billie Starkz being announced for this show so it could be her but Sumie Sakai is in town and I know Kid is a big classic Joshi fan who may be angling for a match with Sakai. Either way, that’s one to keep an eye on.

The Masha and Rina team is cool especially if Rina Yamashita is at her best and not in GCW mode. The two title matches should be solid enough too, SAKI is a veteran who was trained by some of the best Joshi wrestlers of their generation so her pedigree is almost unmatched. Vertvixen is one of the indie women I’m high on and I expect her to take a big leap before long so she’s a strong opponent for SAKI.

Looking around at the cards for WrestleMania Week you could certainly do worse than SPARK, especially if you’re a women’s wrestling fan. While I’m not sure anything will reach the heights of the best stuff this weekend, there are some outcomes (especially with the seminar spots and Kid’s opponent) that could impress.
