WWE is approaching its Super Bowl season. The recent Survivor Series premium live event in Chicago and the return of a certain CM Punk have certainly shaken up the landscape in the biggest wrestling promotion on the planet. But with no further PLEs scheduled between now and the Royal Rumble in January, it’s anyone’s guess as to where those pieces will fall.

2023 winner Cody Rhodes and the recently returned Second City Saint are the frontrunners for victory in the upcoming 30-man extravaganza. Whether it is one of them or someone else entirely, the 24th of January showdown will mark the beginning of the Road to WrestleMania. It is at the Showcase of the Immortals where champions are crowned, and heroes are made. But what of the company’s current major champions?

Three of the four current title holders, namely Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, and Intercontinental Champion Gunther, have held their titles for what feels like an eternity. The former of those three has been champion for over 1,200 days and is on the fourth longest title reign in company history. The latter meanwhile recently became the longest reigning IC champ in history.

So it is with the fourth championship the United States title, where we will start. Here are the four men who should dethrone the current reigning champions in WWE.

United States Championship

The reigning US champion is self-proclaimed megastar Logan Paul, and The Maverick has had a blockbuster for a few months. Bovada sportsbook’s boxing odds made him a -500 favorite for a recent blood-feud bout with Dillon Danis and he duly delivered, dominating his loudmouthed opponent en route to a unanimous decision victory. He then went on to defeat Rey Mysterio at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia to win his first-ever championship in WWE.

It had been a long time coming for the YouTube sensation. Many thought his crowning moment would come with victory in the Money in the Bank ladder match earlier this year but unfortunately for him, that particular honor went to Damien Priest. Paul will instead have to settle for the United States Championship, But picking out who will dethrone him for the strap is no easy task.

Apart from a minor alliance with Dominik Mysterio – one that earned the Judgement Day star a shoutout on a UFC pay-per-view, we might add – the 28-year-old doesn’t currently have any irons in the fire. As such, we can see someone in the ilk of Sami Zayn feuding with the Maverick and eventually defeating him for the title.

The Canadian sensation remains one of the hottest faces in the company following a stellar last couple of years, but he still remains without his crowning moment. Could that come with dethroning Logan Paul as US Champion?

Undisputed WWE Universal Championship

Surely this one is easy, isn’t it? Well, if there’s one thing that we have learned, it is that you never back against Roman Reigns. The current champion was a heavy underdog to retain his title in the main event of WrestleMania 39 against 2023 Royal Rumble match winner Cody Rhodes. But ultimately he did exactly that and he has since powered past 1,000 days as champion.

At WrestleMania XL on April 7th and 8th at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, the pair are expected to mainevent their second straight ‘Mania. And when they do, surely this time, it will be the American Nightmare finishing his decade-plus-long story, won’t it? We certainly think so, but we wouldn’t bet our house on it.

World Heavyweight Championship

Seth Rollins became the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion when he defeated AJ Styles for the gold at Night of Champions back in June. He has since embarked on a fighting champion style reign, a complete contrast to the Tribal Chief with the other piece of major silverware. He feuded with Finn Balor and the Judgement Day as well as Shinsuke Nakamura, before joining forces with some of WWe’s top faces to secure victory in a War Games match at Survivor Series.

But it was at the culmination of that event that Rollins’ WrestleMania opponent made his triumphant return after a decade away. Of course, we are talking about CM Punk, the man that the Visionary has regularly – and very publically – slandered in the past few years. The pair went face to face for the first time on the December 11th episode of Monday Night Raw, when Punk stated that he would be entering the Royal Rumble match and competing against consensus favorite Cody Rhodes. Whether he wins the match remains to be seen, but one thing that is for certain is that the Second City Saint will face – and defeat – Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania.

Intercontinental Championship

Perhaps the hardest champion to pick to dethrone at present is Intercontinental Champion Gunther. He is the longest reigning IC Champ of all time and his reign currently stands at a mighty 550 days. He has beaten everyone put in front of him in some blockbuster feuds, and it is uncertain as to who remains to battle it out with him.

So, with that being said, we’re going to throw a curveball. We can see Ludwig Kaiser turning on the Leader of Imperium and going on to become champion. His victory will catapult him into a top face while freeing up Gunther to pursue the two top champions in the company.
