TOKYO PRINCESS CUP ROUND 2
MIYU YAMASHITA DEF. RAKU (9:23)
They started by trying to roll each other up and then Raku brought out the pillow. Miyu got sick of Raku’s shit and started with the kicks and began to work over Raku’s back. Raku got some offense in but then Miyu retaliated with some big kicks to the head. At one point, Miyu grabbed the pillow, but this ended up allowing Raku a chance to land a couple of Sling Blades. I thought Raku might actually win this but then Yamashita leveled her with a huge kick to the head and got the pin.
Not going to lie, I thought Raku might win this given Miyu is heading back to AEW soon.
The match was solid enough, though Raku looked a little sloppy at points when trying to apply some holds. Miyu will now face Nao Kakuta on July 31 in the quarter-finals. ***
TOKYO PRINCESS CUP ROUND 2
HIKARI NOA DEF. YUKI ARAI (10:44)
Arai got the advantage out of the gate, but the more experienced Noa soon took control and worked the tag champ over with holds. The match then went to a lot of back-and-forth action. Arai worked over Noa’s and Noa targeted Arai’s left leg. Noa grounded Arai with a kick to the left leg and soon followed up with a Blizzard Suplex to get the win.
This was pretty good, and Arai continues to improve her in-ring skills. This was another match where I thought an upset was possible given how high TJPW is on Arai, but I was once again mistaken.
Noah will face Yuka Sakazaki in the quarter-finals on July 31. ***½
FINAL THOUGHTS
Though containing fewer tournament matches this time, the non-tournament matches were much stronger than the first two nights of the tournament. This show went barely over 90 minutes, so it’s worth checking the whole thing out.
