ATSUKI AOYAGI DEF. DAN TAMURA (9:52)

This match was a good opener, but with one caveat. Tamura, who I like a lot, doesn’t really know what to do in the opening minutes of a match before he can start hitting his big moves. His control sequences in the first few minutes were really dry. For this reason, he is much better in tag settings. Hopefully, as he nears his third anniversary as a pro wrestler, he can improve on this. Once the match picked up, it was a lot of fun with each guy getting a few near falls on each other. Aoyagi continues to impress, he’s become really smooth with all of high flying moves. Tamura kicked out of three rolling Fisherman’s Suplexes but then Aoyagi put him away with a Firebird Splash ***¼

KOJI IWAMOTO & RYUKI HONDA DEF. TAKAO OMORI & BLACK MENSO~RE (8:35)

Iwamoto and Honda are developing into a great tag team, and this match was a good demonstration as to why. The story was simple enough. Menso~re got worked over a lot in the opening minutes but then he and Omori made a comeback, but it wasn’t to last long as Honda pinned Menso~re with a German Suplex Hold. Iwamoto and Honda were great here, working over Menso~re like a well-oiled machine. Honda also did a great job in the closing stretch. He’s adding more moves to his arsenal and being more expressive in showing his fighting spirit. ***¼

TOTAL ECLIPSE (JAKE LEE, HOKUTO OMORI & YUSUKE KODAMA) DEF. SHUJI ISHIKAWA, KENGO MASHIMO & TAKURO NIKI (10:42)

Ishikawa and Mashimo were doing the CAN THEY CO-EXIST? partners gimmick and were shoving each other before the match even began. While Niki was getting worked over by Total Eclipse, Jake did a Senton, which I haven’t seen him do in ages. At one point Mashimo refused to tag in for Ishikawa offering Niki up to do so instead, even though the 2AW veteran hadn’t been in the match yet. They also did a spot where Ishikawa accidentally Lariated Mashimo because Omori ducked out of the way. Omori got the pin on Niki after the Muso Issen. This was a good fast-paced undercard six-man tag, but the feuding partners stuff is growing thin for me, because All Japan has been doing it a lot lately. **¾

REAL WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2021 B BLOCK
IZANAGI & DEVIL MURASAKI (0) DCO T-HAWK & EL LINDAMAN (3)

Purple Haze attacked before the bell. They brawled outside a bunch and then Murasaki spent a bunch of time choking T-Hawk inside the ring. El Linda got his arms and legs tied up and was rolling around on the entrance ramp. Both teams brawled on the entrance ramp until they were counted out, and continued to brawl after the match. This wasn’t great folks. In fact this was worse than Abdullah Kobayashi and Drew Parkers vs. The Saito Twins, because there was some actual wrestling in that, even if it was brief. This match was sub-Toru Yano level stuff. I’m not going to give this a DUD because I admit I laughed when El Lindaman was rolling around all tied up. I can’t believe that the politics are such that Purple Haze couldn’t have even won here. Anyway, StrongHearts now finish the block stage with 3 points, which would take an epic meltdown by Nextream losing to Izanagi and Devil Murasaki forcing a playoff with StrongHearts for them to have a chance to make it to the semi-finals. Purple Haze are still in this, but the chance they are going to win or even a time limit draw in their next two matches is at basically zero. ½*

REAL WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2021 A BLOCK
RUNAWAY SUPLEX (SUWAMA & SHOTARO ASHINO) (2) DEF. JUN SAITO & REI SAITO (0) (13:32)

The first few minutes of this saw both teams shoulder blocking each other a lot with no one getting knocked down. This was a good way to establish the Saitos as being a force to be reckoned with. Rei got his left leg worked over for a while, but when Jun got in there, he was great, the best I have seen him look so far in his career. The Saitos even hit a double Chokeslam on Suwama! Runaway Suplex fought back, hit stereo German Suplexes on the Saitos then applied stereo Ankle Locks to them with Suwama submitting Rei for the victory. This was a lot of fun. The Saitos continue to show progress, especially Jun. This was a very good hard-hitting match and a good sign for the future of the Saito Twins. Unfortunately for them, they have been eliminated from A block with this loss. ***½

REAL WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2021 B BLOCK
NEXTREAM (KENTO MIYAHARA & YUMA AOYAGI) (3) DEF. TAJIRI & SUPER CRAZY (0) (17:49)

I’m sure that Miyahara tangling in the ring with Super Crazy wasn’t on anybody’s 2021 wrestling Bingo card, but here we are. The opening minutes of this saw the ECW alumni work over Nextream, mostly on the mat with a little cheating and cheap shots thrown in. After a slow start, things did pick up to a fairly brisk pace. Credit goes to TAJIRI, he worked harder here than he usually does these days. Miyahara rolled up Super Crazy for the win. This was nothing mind-blowing but I thought it was a fun little match, considering Super Crazy and TAJIRI often show their age these days. After the match, Miyahara sang Happy Birthday to referee Kyohei Wada, who just turned 67 on November 20. ***¼

FINAL THOUGHTS

If you’re keeping an eye on this tournament but are only going to check out great matches, then you can skip this show. This is still something the All Japan hardcores should check out, however. The biggest news coming out of the show is that Nextream are almost certainly winning B block while TAJIRI and Super Crazy have been eliminated. The Saito Twins have also been eliminated from A block.
