Before the Battle Riot match, we had a few news notes and segments:

  • Cesar Duran (the former Dario Cueto) is MLW’s new matchmaker in addition to being the leader of Azteca Underground.
  • Konnan is back with a new Latin American Xchange, Rivera (aka Danny Limelight), Slice Boogie, and Dr. Julius Smokes. They get into it with Injustice.
  • MLW announces a new show called Fusion Alpha

40-Man Battle Riot Match
Alexander Hammerstone won the Battle Riot

The beginning of this match was slow, with an extended focus on submissions. As the ring started to fill, it was hard to keep track of everything going on.

Nduka and Tankman eliminated each other, and it seems like they’re setting up for a feud between the two. The surprise entrants were hit and miss this year. Zicky Dice was a good choice, and the crowd popped hard for the Blue Meanie. Then they added “Kim Chee”, some random Sentai Death Squad members, and some big guy wearing a loincloth. Tom Lawlor and Savio Vega also channeled their inner Mick Foley and entered again with different disguises.

The end was decent as they finally paid off the Hammerstone vs. Mads Krügger feud with Hammerstone eliminating him and winning the Battle Riot victory. I’m excited for Hammerstone vs. Jacob Fatu for the MLW World Heavyweight Title. Until then, Battle Riot III was just alright. **3/4

Final Thoughts

I can’t pretend I’m not disappointed. Despite advertising multiple matches for weeks, only the Battle Riot battle royal aired. The new LAX was interesting, as is news of a new MLW show. EJ Nduka came off looking the best tonight, dominating the Battle Riot before getting eliminated. For his part, Alex Kane tossing fools was fun too.
