This week on Wrestling Omakase we wrap up the 2021 Champion Carnival with a full review of the finals and our final wrestler & match rankings, and review both nights of NJPW’s Wrestling Dontaku.

John is joined by returning guest & VOW contributor Gerard Di Trolio (@GerardDiTrolio) who starts out with a little vaccine update from north of the border. Once that’s out of the way they get into their Champion Carnival review, breaking down all four tournament matches as well as a big six-man tag featuring the #STRONGHEARTS. Did Jake Lee deliver in his big moment? Plus, John ranks all ten Carnival participants by average star rating, gives their final top 10 matches of the tournament, and ranks the ten nights of the tournament by average rating as well. Then John & Gerard preview All Japan’s biggest show in years, the CHAMPIONS NIGHT on May 16th at Ota Ward Gym, running down the full card, from the good to the Chikara.

They then go from the Zen to the Shin, as John and Gerard review both nights of NJPW’s Wrestling Dontaku. They discuss a divisive Tanahashi/White NEVER title match and a crappy ladder match on night 1, and break down the Will Ospreay vs. Shingo Takagi IWGP World title match from night 2 in great detail. John does their best to explain why they’re a bit lower than you might see others going on the match, while Gerard has praise that’s more in line with what you might be expecting. Finally, they wrap things up with a brief discussion on New Japan’s upcoming schedule and the various threats any possible State of Emergency extensions propose.
