-Our newest 1 Match series covering matches submitted by Omakase patrons, which recently highlighted an incredibly bloody joshi tag team match from the late 90s between the legendary LCO team of Etsuko Mita & Mima Shimoda and the team of Ayako Hamada & AKINO, and a match from just two years into NJPW’s existence from 1974 with Antonio Inoki taking on the invading Strong Kobayashi!
-Our recent series covering every Tokyo Dome main event (not just NJPW and not just 1/4!) in order, which wrapped up for now with a pair of very diverging Shinya Hashimoto main events from 1995: his battle with Kensuke Sasaki for NJPW’s annual 1/4 show, and his infamous disaster with Masahiro Chono on the Weekly Pro Wrestling Bridge of Dreams interpromotional show. We’ll pick this series back up later in the year, but you can listen to 14 episodes right now!
-All of our 2020 tournament coverage: the G1 Climax, World Tag League & BOSJ from NJPW, Champion Carnival from AJPW, N-1 Victory from NOAH, the King of DDT & D-Ou GP from DDT, and the Princess Cup from Tokyo Joshi!

Both have been completed, so follow along in chronological order as we discuss not just each match but also everything else all four guys were up to in New Japan at the time!

-And much more!

This week on Wrestling Omakase we take a completely randomized look back at NJPW’s anniversary shows through the years (from 1981 through 2017!) in our 200TH EPISODE!!!

John is joined by their longtime friend and wrestling travel companion Bryan Quinlan (@IM_NOT_QUINLAN), for, yes, EPISODE TWO HUNDRED! Yeah! They start things off with a big thank you to all of the patrons and listeners for making this possible, and then discuss some recent good vaccine news, memories of attending wrestling shows together and much more. They then get into the six random matches from six random anniversary shows through the years, all of which can of course be found on New Japan World:

1981: Antonio Inoki & Yoshiaki Yatsu vs. Stan Hansen & Abdullah the Butcher
2002: Yuji Nagata vs. Yoshihiro Takayama
2009: Hiroshi Tanahashi & Tiger Mask IV vs. Masahiro Chono & Jushin Thunder Liger
2013: Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Lance Archer
2014: KUSHIDA & Manabu Nakanishi vs. Gedo & Jado
2017: Kazuchika Okada vs. Tiger Mask W

Topics that come up along the way include: a little bit more Hansen History, who’s been disqualified anyway, Abdullah looks positively spry in 1981, the good side of Inoki-ism, Nagata and Takayama tear the house down, Masahiro Chono could barely move by 2009, Hiroshi Tanahashi doing heel mannerisms is very weird, two different shows at Korakuen four years apart are very different, we sure miss Shinsuke, Marty Asami may still be unconscious right now, why the hell did Gedo & Jado have to fight Manabu Nakanishi, Flair Flops, the entire history of Kota Ibushi’s departure from his NJPW/DDT dual contract and his weird time as a true freelancer, Kota would rather be an anime character than make money, SUPER TIGER DRIVER, and more.
