John is joined by returning guests Jamie (@JamieOD) from Dramatic DDT (@DramaticDDT) and JoJo (@jojo_runs) from VOW for our annual DDT Year in Review episode. Before we get into DDT though we start with some words on the incredible tragedy that was the passing of Brodie Lee. Unfortunately there’s no easy way to transition from that to goofy wrestling stuff, in either audio or text. We then discuss DDT’s December 27th Korakuen, their final major show of the year that featured the crowning of the D-Ou GP 2021 champion. We talk all the matches on that show as well as where we think things might be going from here.
Once that’s out of the way we look back at DDT’s year, split into three sections- pre-COVID, empty arena, and returning to shows in front of fans. We discuss how DDT did in all three very different parts of the year, and also compare their empty arena shows to other companies (both Japanese & American) as well. We also talk a little bit of DDT history spurned on by the return of former KO-D Openweight Champion Yuji Hino, discussing Kota Ibushi’s own KO-D reigns and whether or not history may be about to repeat itself when it comes to Kota and a top title in another company. We then give out our awards across the DDT system, including Tokyo Joshi, and finally wrap things up with a few listener-submitted questions.
