REAL WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2020
NEXTREAM (KENTO MIYAHARA & YUMA AOYAGI) [8] DEF. PURPLE HAZE (SHIGEHIRO IRIE & IZANAGI) [2] (13:00)

This was a fun match. Two good teams just going in there and doing their thing. No complex story, just solid back-and-forth action. We also got the first Nextream blunder of the tournament as Aoyagi held up Izanagi for a Miyahara high kick, but Izanagi ducked and Aoyagi got nailed in the face. Purple Haze looked to have had Aoyagi on the ropes but Aoyagi managed a comeback after avoiding some Izanagi flash pin attempts and locked in the End Game on Izanagi for the submission victory. No overarching story here, just some good to great wrestlers doing their thing well. ***1/2

In the backstage comments after the match, Hokuto Omori once again attacked Izanagi and ripped off his mask. This is one of those wrestling logic questions where you have to ask, where is Shigehiro Irie when these attacks happen?

REAL WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2020
DAISUKE SEKIMOTO & ABDULLAH KOBAYASHI [8] DEF. YOSHITATSU & RYOUJI SAI [4] (13:09)

Early on, after some Sai and Sekimoto grappling, we were treated to Kobayashi versus Yoshitatsu action. It spilled to the outside where they brawled very slowly. Back in the ring, Kobayashi tried to use the fork, but Yoshitatsu managed to stick it in Kobayashi’s head. This all happened like they were wrestling in slow motion. Sekimoto couldn’t really save this one either, he didn’t do anything interesting at all. Just way too much Kobayashi. Kobayashi isolated Yoshitatsu pretty easily and hit a top-rope elbow drop for the win with zero drama. My new worst match of the tournament. *3/4

REAL WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2020
VIOLENT GIANTS (SUWAMA & SHUJI ISHIKAWA) [6] DEF. TEAM ECW (MASATO TANAKA & TAJIRI) [6] (7:55)

SUWAMA and Tanaka started with some good grappling. Within less than a minute of TAJIRI tagging in, he used the kendo stick on Ishikawa with the referee’s back turned. TAJIRI and Tanaka then worked over Ishikawa’s left leg. SUWAMA missed a Lariat on TAJIRI and hit Ishikawa and in the aftermath, we got a referee bump and more kendo stick shots to Ishikawa. Tanaka delivered the top rope splash to SUWAMA on a table on the outside which is a spot I can never hate on. Then there were unprotected shots to Ishikawa’s head with the kendo stick and a piece of the destroyed table. The referee finally recovers as Ishikawa put TAJIRI in some sort of neck crank for the submission. This had dumb interference spots even by Team ECW standards in this tournament, but at least it was short. Both teams continued to brawl after the match. **1/2

REAL WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2020
JIN (JAKE LEE & KOJI IWAMOTO) [8] DEF. ENFANTS TERRIBLES (SHOTARO ASHINO & KUMA ARASHI) [6] (16:19)

There were not long stretches here where one team was in control and one wrestler was getting worked over. I will say however, that Ashino and Iwamoto work quite well together. Lots of fast paced action and then it came down to Arashi and Lee. Arashi missed a top-rope senton, Lee got an assist from Iwamoto, then Lee hit a Backdrop on Arashi for the win. Nothing fancy but just good action. Sorry for the lack of more details, there really is not much more to say (but in a good way), but if you like either of these teams, then watch this match. ***1/2

FINAL THOUGHTS

I thought the undercard on this show was pretty good. All of the undercard matches are worth a watch, but I liked Francesco Akira vs. Alejandro the most.

Going into the final night of the tournament here are the standings:

1. Kento Miyahara & Yuma Aoyagi [8]
-. Daisuke Sekimoto & Abdullah Kobayashi [8]
-. Jake Lee & Koji Iwamoto [8]
4. Shotaro Ashino & Kuma Arashi [6]
-. TAJIRI & Masato Tanaka [6]
-. Suwama & Shuji Ishikawa [6]
7. Yoshitatsu & Ryouji Sai [4]
8. Izanagi & Shigehiro Irie [2]

There’s only two credible scenarios going into the final night. All Japan does not do tie-breakers and the Real World Tag League does not have a finals unless there is a draw. I’m not taking double countounts or disqualifications seriously in this, so really if Kobayashi and Sekimoto beat Violent Giants on 12/7, they face the winner of Lee & Iwamoto versus Miyahara & Aoyagi later on the same show. While Miyahara could get his win back against Kobyashi, I tend to think that Violent Giants will just beat the Big Japan duo and JIN versus Nextream will be the de facto finals. In my scenario, you will certainly get the highest quality decision match to determine the tournament winners. I also doubt the Big Japan team will force a play off because I think the Violent Giants will finish with a winning record. I will also say that I pray to God that Enfants Terribles also finish with a winning record and do not lose to Yoshitatsu and Sai on the final night.
