PURE-J RAINBOW DREAM

SHINKIBA 1ST RING

TOKYO, JAPAN

Watch: Filmuy

The tag team champions collide as Hanako Nakamori takes on Rina Yamashita at  Shinkiba 1st Ring.  This show will also have Sareee in action as well as Leon defending her title against Rydeen Hagane

MOEKA HARUHI DEF. CHIE OZORA

A solid opener as Haruhi handily dominated the match.  Ozora is still working with a limited move set and that’s putting a cap on her matches. **1/2

KAZUKI DEF. KAORI YONEYAMA

How to describe this match? This wasn’t a standard pro wrestling match by any means.  To win a competitor had to get a 1 count pinfall or a rope break and then correctly answer a question.  Yeah, this transcends star ratings but it’s just weird wrestling at its weirdest.

SAREEE DEF. AKARI

This felt like Sareee running through the hits and going at half speed.  AKARI didn’t show much fire in the face of such an onslaught which led to this falling flat.  Genuinely this is one of the worst Sareee performances I can remember. ***

HANAKO NAKAMORI VS RINA YAMASHITA – DRAW

This delivered some no-nonsense, hard-hitting pro wrestling.  Despite being the current tag team champions Nakamori and Yamashita did not take things easy on each other.  A draw was the most logical result as both are booked fairly well and neither needs to be taking pins.  ***3/4

PURE-J OPENWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
LEON (C) DEF. RYDEEN HAGANE

Leon tried her hardest here to work the match and tell a story of her chopping down the bigger, stronger Hagane but Hagane has a hard ceiling on her matches.  Leon winning was never in doubt which took me out of the story they were going for. ***1/4

FINAL THOUGHTS

For the first time since I started reviewing PURE-J for VOW, I was disappointed with the show.  Nakamori vs Yamashita was miles above anything else on the card and it wasn’t even close.  The departures of Mari Manji and Manami Katsu, as well as the absence of Crea, has been a hit to PURE-J and its already small roster.  As long as Nakamori and Leon are around we can be assured that there’ll be at least one pretty good match per show at the very least.
