GODDESS OF STARDOM
OCTOBER 29, 2020
Stardom hits up Korakuen Hall again as they head towards Sendai Cinderella. This show will be reliant on the two title matches to deliver so let’s see if they did.
RINA DEF. GOKIGEN DEATH, RUAKA, SAKI KASHIMA & HINA
Rina pinned her sister Hina after getting some help from Saki Kashima. Rina left with Kashima after the match with Kashima which left her STARS stablemates confused. I must note that this was Ruaka’s return match and she looked pretty solid given it’s been months since she last wrestled. Solid opener but the Kashima/Rina story is the biggest takeaway. **1/2
GODDESS OF STARDOM TAG LEAGUE
DREAM H (TAM NAKANO & MINA SHIRAKAWA) (4) DEF. wing⭐gori (HANAN & SAYA IIDA)
This was a fairly standard tag team match until the closing stretch between Hanan and Nakano. It was also a surprise that Hanan and Iida dominated the match and not the Dream H team. Nakano pinned Iida to take her team to 4 points. ***1/4
Post Match: Tam Nakano announced that ZZ would debut at the next Korakuen Hall show and make Dream H explode (Mina Shirakawa debuted as Z). Assuming this is either Himawari Unagi or Nao Kakuta who both recently left their home promotions it’s interesting to see Tam put together a subgroup of more idol-based wrestlers.
MOMO WATANABE, RIHO & UTAMI HAYASHISHITA DEF. OEDO TAI (KONAMI, BEA PRIESTLEY & NATSUKO TORA) – DQ
Another show, another disqualification loss for Oedo Tai who are quickly becoming the dumbest heels in wrestling given that they leave very clear evidence of their cheating. At least this time we got a good match from them as Priestley and Watanabe had some fun exchanges down the stretch to continue their rivalry. Riho also worked incredibly well with Momo and Utami, if they ever decide to put Riho in a faction then QQ is the obvious choice given how well she works with them. ***1/2
Post Match: Rina, who escorted Oedo Tai to the ring with Saki Kashima, was welcomed into Oedo Tai by Natsuko Tora. Rina going to Oedo Tai is a good move as OT has lacked a member who can take pins since Natsu Sumire took time off to heal her injuries. Now hopefully we can get away from the constant DQ’s and just let Rina take some pins, or better yet LET THEM WIN FOR ONCE!
FUTURE OF STARDOM CHAMPIONSHIP
MAIKA (C) DEF. SAYA KAMITANI
These two have been joined at the hip recently as we’ve seen a feud blossom between them. While Kamitani came away with the win at Yokohama Cinderella to retain the Goddesses Of Stardom Championships she came up short here as Maika got her win back. Despite both debuting in 2019 they put on a pretty good match here that continues to showcase the potential of both women. ***1/4
DONNA DEL MONDO (NATSUPOI & SYURI) DEF. STARS (MAYU IWATANI & STARLIGHT KID)
I thought this match would be Natsupoi’s to win given she was opposite Starlight Kid and has been vocal about wanting a High-Speed Championship match. Instead, this was about Syuri and commemorating her officially signing with Stardom while giving her a win to set up a match with Bea Priestley. Syuri and Priestley were noticeably paired together in the DDM vs Oedo Tai draw from the previous Korakuen so I did expect the two to wrestle eventually. The match itself was fun although nothing special and DDM goes 2 for 2 tonight, and will go 3 for 3 no matter who wins the main event. ***1/2
WONDER OF STARDOM CHAMPIONSHIP
GIULIA (C) DEF. HIMEKA
Giulia makes defense number 2 of the white belt against her DDM stablemate Himeka. In the GP Himeka became the first person to defeat Giulia in a singles match so Giulia gets her win back here. Himeka came into Stardom with very strong booking but has lost three big matches in a row starting with the GP final loss to Utami Hayashishita. After that hot start, Himeka has settled into her place in the middle of the DDM pack, especially with this loss. This match didn’t really hit me on any notable level thanks in part to the horrendous angles they shot to try and force some heat into the match, Giulia throwing a shirt at Himeka and getting pranked with a cake wasn’t really necessary and did nothing to add intensity to this match. This was still a solid main event for a Korakuen Hall show, it’s just not a must-see in any way. ***1/2
This was a surprisingly eventful Korakuen Hall show. Rina joined Oedo Tai, Syuri challenged Bea Priestley, and Konami was established as the next challenger for Giulia. Nothing on this show was amazing but there were a lot of good matches and with Stardom’s ambitions to run bigger venues more often now that’s all we can expect to see from these Korakuen Hall events.
