This week Wrestling Omakase’s third annual Year in Review series continues! Each week from now until the end of the year we will recap the 2019 of a specific promotion, promotions, or type of wrestling, covering all their major shows and moments and giving our picks for the major award categories. It’s a great way for you to catch up with wrestling you may have missed this year and identify matches you may want to watch or rewatch before doing your end of the year awards voting!
AEW and ROH are two American wrestling companies that had very different 2019s, and we discuss them both on this episode of Omakase. John is joined by returning guest and VOW contributor Sean Sedor (@SASedor2994) and Nate (@epitasis) of Everything Elite (@EverythingAEW) as we start out with some talk about Nate’s upcoming trip to Japan and thus some NJPW talk, including who is walking out of Wrestle Kingdom with both belts. We then talk Ring of Honor’s incredible decline. Was there anything they could have done to prevent their fall? Just how bad has it gotten in the back half of the year? We then move over to discussing the first calendar year in existence for All Elite Wrestling, as we break down how things are looking for them as they exit their proverbial honeymoon period. We talk some of the big mistakes they made in terms of perhaps trying to promise to be all things to all people, and why some types of fans may have turned on them recently. But of course we also talk some of our favorite matches, moments and Dynamite episodes so far. Finally we wrap things up with our award winners and another spirited mailbag.
