WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2019
TORU YANO & COLT CABANA (12) DEF. HIROOKI GOTO & KARL FREDERICKS (4)
Decent little opener, Cabana is getting more and more over as this tour progresses. One standout moment was Yano begging Goto not to hurt him since they’re friends from CHAOS and Goto not buying his bullshit. This match would be the second most interesting thing Goto does on this show. Yano and Cabana now sit on 12 points and are in touching distance of the league leaders. **3/4
WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2019
BAD LUCK FALE & CHASE OWENS (6) DEF. YUJI NAGATA & MANABU NAKANISHI (2)
Nakanishi and Nagata are officially eliminated but at least they can hold their heads up knowing they tried their hardest. Fale brought back his gimmick from this year’s G1 where he outwrestled proper wrestlers to pick up victories, rolling up Nagata to pick up the win for the Bullet Club duo. **1/4
WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2019
KENTA & YUJIRO TAKAHASHI (8) DEF. SATOSHI KOJIMA & HIROYSHI TENZAN (8)
Good match with KENTA submitting Kojima with the Game Over. The real story, however, happened post-match where Goto hit the ring beat up KENTA and Yujiro. Goto is looking very crisp whenever he is doing these KENTA angles, it’s making very excited for their Dome match. ***
WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2019
MINORU SUZUKI & LANCE ARCHER (12 POINTS) DEF. TOGI MAKABE & TOMOAKI HONMA
Another really rough one for Honma. In there ‘better’ matches this tour, they’ve been short and sharp with an even spread of Makabe and Honma. Last two shows, all Honma and the matches have been on the longer side for WTL standards. I get that the crowd gets behind his comebacks and his kick-outs, but they look like shit, I am sorry. **1/2
WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2019
SHINGO TAKAGI & TERRIBLE (10) DEF. HIROSHI TANAHASHI & TOA HENARE (4)
I found myself getting really into this one, especially the Shingo/Henare exchanges, I’m sure that’s surprising to no one. They had a great singles match in October and I just want to see them wrestle all the time, they are perfect opponents for each other. Tanahashi has gone into full-on sleepwalk mode which is fair enough and although Terrible isn’t that good, he does that southpaw overhand slap really well and always brings it out for its full effect. ***1/2
WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2019
TAMA TONGA & TANGA LOA (12) DEF. JEFF COBB & MIKEY NICHOLS (10)
I don’t get it, I really just don’t get it. How do G.O.D have bad matches so often? We’ve seen them have great matches, I like them both as wrestlers but more often then not, their matches stink. I think you can tell by the tone of this review that this was one of their stinkers. I am seriously baffled, the structure is always weird. Maybe it’s the extremely long heat spots, the brief comeback and then the interference, their matches are rarely satisfying and don’t give me the “they’re heels, you’re not supposed to be satisfied” Jay White matches are satisfying!! I don’t know what to tell you, I am just so over this team. **
WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2019
EVIL & SANADA (14) DEF. ZACK SABRE JR. & TAICHI (6)
GREAT MATCH ALERT, GREAT MATCH ALERT. The show as a whole was a bit of a stinker but I had high hopes for this main event and it delivered in spades. I love EVIL and SANADA but my biggest complaint with them this tournament and in general is they don’t make good babyfaces in peril, Zack Sabre Jr. is so good at his submission work he made them great babyfaces in peril. This really was great, fast action, great closing stretch and everyone got a chance to shine. SANADA pins Zack with the moonsault, pretty much confirming that is the direction for WrestleKingdom. ****
FINAL THOUGHTS:
A really disappointing show, thought the return to Korakuen would spark something, however, that was not to be. The main event was legitimately great and you should watch that.
