WORLD WONDER RING STARDOM
STARDOM BEST OF GODDESS
NOVEMBER 4, 2019
KORAKUEN HALL
TOKYO, JAPAN
Watch: Stardom-World
The top two titles are on the line as the top gaijins challenge STARS for the World and Wonder of Stardom championships. Tag League matches are sprinkled into the rest of the card with one or two matches that should be short and fun rounding out the card.
ZOE LUCAS DEF. HINA & RINA
A fine opener that gave some shine to Lucas who has spent most of this tour taking pinfalls. As usual, it didn’t overstay it’s welcome and gave a midcarder a warm-up win. **1/2
HANA KIMURA & BOBBI TYLER DEF. MARTINA & NATSU SUMIRE and TAM NAKANO & SAKI KASHIMA
This was a fun “get everyone on the card” matchup. Kimura beating Martina is good booking as Martina has been kept strong on this tour so far so pinning her meant more than pinning Tam or Natsu. Not much to this but a fun match nonetheless ***
BLUE GODDESS
SAYA KAMITANI & SAYA IIDA Def. KAGETSU & ANDRAS MIYAGI
No one could have expected this! Saya Kamitani debuted only three months ago and just picked up a pinfall win over Andras Miyagi. I stand to be corrected but I don’t think Saya Iida, who debuted a full seven months before her partner has picked up a pinfall win over someone outside of the Future Of Stardom division. Kamitani is an obvious star in the making for Stardom as she has an idol background, already has a photobook on the way and has now been given a big win just months into her career. The match itself was nothing to write home about but the result was very noteworthy. **1/2
RED GODDESS
NATSUKO TORA & HAZUKI DEF. KONAMI & JUNGLE KYONA
A good tag team match between two good teams. Oedo Tai were at their heelish best as they attacked before the bell and worked on Kyona’s arm. Once things got going it was all action before Tora got the win. I like Tora pinning Kyona as it continues the ongoing feud between the two ***1/4
RED GODDESS
AZM & MOMO WATANABE DEF. RIHO & STARLIGHT KID
Any match that continues the AZM/SLK rivalry is instantly very good. As expected this was a great tag match with AZM’s interactions with both SLK and Riho being excellent. AZM pinning SLK is symbolic of the jump up the card AZM has made since getting to compete in the 5STAR GP. ***3/4
WONDER OF STARDOM CHAMPIONSHIP
ARISA HOSHIKI (C) DEF. JAMIE HAYTER
Another very goof title defense from Arisa Hoshiki. Hayter slowed the match down and tried to keep Hoshiki grounded but once Hoshiki got on a roll she managed to put this away. Hoshiki’s title run has established her striking as absolutely killer as once she gets going on offense she is unstoppable. The finish to this one put both over strong as Hoshiki had to throw several devastating strikes at Hayter to put her away, maybe one too many as once again that arrogance crept into Hoshiki’s game. ***3/4
WORLD OF STARDOM CHAMPIONSHIP
MAYU IWATANI DEF. BEA PRIESTLEY (C)
This was easily the best match of Priestley’s reign. Mayu is the best fiery babyface in wrestling and she worked off of Priestley’s controlling heel style really well. Priestley herself showed off more than we’re used to seeing, pulling out great suplexes and strikes to keep the pressure on Mayu. The crowd was really hot for Mayu and every comeback was me with a receptive crowd. It’s been a long road back to the top for the icon of Stardom who’s only red belt run was stopped short by an unfortunate injury and this match built to the feel-good moment of her victory really well. ***3/4
FINAL THOUGHTS:
Stardom rarely fails to deliver a good show at Korkauen Hall and this was another enjoyable show. There were three really good matches with a big title change to end the show and some big moments on the undercard like Saya Kamitani getting her first win. As always there wasn’t a bad match in sight on a very easy watch
