WORLD WONDER RING STARDOM
STARDOM WORLD CHAMPIONS WARS
OCTOBER 14, 2019
KORAKUEN HALL
TOKYO, JAPAN
Watch:Â Stardom-World
This show will be relying on Kagetsu vs Arisa Hoshiki to deliver if it wants to stand out, the undercard should deliver some fun matches but I don’t expect any to be great. With Bea vs Hana on top that’s more about making Hana a star than match quality so let’s hope we get a new champion and a new star tonight.
Tam Nakano Def. Saya Kamitani
This one went a bit longer than I was expecting and we got to see what Saya could do in a longer match. This was fine for what it was Saya is still new and only debuted at the end of August so she still has a long way to go and Tam isn’t the kind of wrestler that can carry a match like this. Good opener if a bit long **1/2
Tag Team Gauntlet: Hazuki & Natsuko Tora Win
A fun, fast-paced tag gauntlet where each team got their chance to shine before being eliminated by the next entrants. ***
Blue Goddesses Block: Martina & Natsu Sumire Def. Zoe Lucas & Bobbi Tyler
A fun match that was worked at a good pace. Martina was given the shine here as she single-handedly fought off Lucas and Tyler before getting the win. It’s a good decision to heat up Martina as Stardom fans haven’t seen her for almost a year and this was a necessary reintroduction. ***
Red Goddesses: Mayu Iwatani & Saki Kashima Def. Momo Watanabe & AZM
A very good match that had a few different phases. We started with Saki and AZM getting to renew their feud again before settling into Mayu selling her knee really well and finally we got Mayu vs Momo which had some callbacks to their recent singles match from the GP. Mayu pinning Momo and not AZM makes sense as Mayu gets her win back from the GP finals. ***1/2
Wonder Of Stardom Championship: Arisa Hoshiki (C) Def Kagetsu
This was exactly what people were expecting as Arisa relied on her strikes and Kagetsu not only tried to match the strikes but also incorporate some ground game into the mix. This one was hurt by a lack of idea’s down the stretch as the impact of Kagetsu kicking out of knee strikes wore off. Arisa is great at what she does but for a match that went almost 20 minutes, it was made clear that she still needs to add to her arsenal before she can make the step up to longer matches like this. Kagetsu was fantastic as always and really put over her younger opponent strong here. ***3/4
World Of Stardom Championship: Bea Priestley (C) Def. Hana Kimura
This was possibly the worst of Bea’s title matches and I can’t wait for Stardom to get this title off of her. This match was 20 minutes long but only got somewhat exciting in the last 30 seconds. This was especially poor in that Hana didn’t get much of an opportunity to shine after winning the GP. I would’ve flipped the script here and had her dominate the majority of the match instead of letting Bea control things. Not a good match and really killed Hana’s buzz **1/2
Final Thoughts:
An okay show, Stardom didn’t have much turnaround from their last trip to Korakuen and with the Typhoon causing an attendance dip this didn’t feel as hot as the usual Korakuen shows. The STARS vs QQ tag match and Kagetsu vs Arisa were the highlights of the show but that poor main event leaves a bad taste in your mouth.
