The IIconics (Billie Kay & Peyton Royce) began their record-breaking WWE Women’s Tag Team Title run on April 7, 2019, at WrestleMania 35, an event that was equal to and less than the upcoming WWE SuperShow Down in Jeddah, [REDACTED].

In the 58 days since that iconic The IIconics title win, the duo has made quite the impact on RAW, SmackDown Live and Main Event participating in several tag and singles matches—even defending their titles once too!

Let’s look back at the journey of our record-setting champions.

Just days after this historic title victory when they defended their newly-held titles against The Brooklyn Belles, a spunky team presumably from Brooklyn, New York. Karissa and Kristen fell easily to Kay & Royce, a great start for the new Women Tag Team Champs.

Six days later, The IIconics ventured onto Monday Night RAW and faced off with Bayley—one-half of the former WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships—and her new partner Naomi. The Bayley & Naomi duo made quick work of the IIconics in a non-title match defeating the champs in a 1:55 and solidifying a future tag team title shot. As of this writing (50 days later), it hasn’t happened yet but I’m sure they are just waiting for the right time.

Next up for the duo was a multi-person match that saw Kay & Royce team up with Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville to take on Bayley, Asuka, Ember Moon and Kairi Sane. Despite a gutsy performance, the IIconics were once again on the losing end.

Oh well.

On RAW the following week, The IIconics saw singles action as Kay specifically battled a familiar opponent from last week: Naomi. Kay lost in a little over a minute. A day later, it was Royce’s turn for singles action. She also lost. This time to Kairi Sane. To Royce’s credit, she lasted 1:35 besting her IIconics teammate Kay by 25 seconds.

Kay & Royce finally got off the schneid on the April 29 episode of Main Event (you guys know the one we’re talking about) defeating the always-tricky Alicia Fox & Tamina. A week later, The IIconics were back on Main Event (May 6) with Royce in singles action defeating Nikki Cross. Back-to-back wins!

The IIconics would have to wait 14 days for their next match which came in a losing effort on the May 20 episode of RAW. Kay & Royce teamed with Lacey Evans but were unfortunately defeated by Alexa Bliss, Becky Lynch and Nikki Cross. The next week, The IIconics were back in two-on-two action this time against Lynch & Cross. They lost.

Yesterday, Royce got back into singles action facing off with Nikki Cross on RAW.

She lost. Oh well, better luck next time.

  • Peyton Royce (Singles Matches): 1-2
  • Billie Kay (Singles Matches): 0-1
  • The IIconics (2v2): 2-2
  • The IIconics (Title Defenses): 1-0
  • The IIconics (Other Tag Matches): 0-2
  • The IIconics (Overall): 4-7

The numbers above are The IIconics win-loss records since beginning their record-breaking title reign. The numbers tell the story of a team with some ups and downs, sure, but one that has persevered as they continue to hold tightly to their WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles.

Wins and losses don’t tell the entire story.

Sometimes champions are bested. Sometimes champions don’t win matches ever. Sometimes champions don’t even defend their belts. Who cares? It’s the type of magic that attaches us, the WWE Universe, to WWE superstars like The IIconics and keeps us coming back for more each Monday, Tuesday and sometimes on whatever day Main Event airs.
