Suit Williams here, back again with another edition of the Black and Gold Binge for this Saturday’s NXT TakeOver XXV!

This show has very little buzz mostly because of schedule shifts caused by WWE’s Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia. But yes, there is a TakeOver this weekend. As always, it will rule. Anyway, here are the highlights of the last two months of NXT. Enjoy.

The Black and Gold Binge List for NXT TakeOver XXV

April 10, 2019

  • The Street Profits vs. Marcel Barthel and Fabian Aichner (Start Time: 37:13) – My guy Fabian Aichner makes an appearance on the post-TakeOver NXT with his NXT UK partner Marcel Barthel against the Street Profits. An awesome tag team sprint ensues. This is less than 10 minutes, and well worth your time.

April 17, 2019

  • North American Title: Velveteen Dream vs. Buddy Murphy (5:37) – Buddy Murphy makes a pit stop on his way to Smackdown Live (must’ve run out of gas, he’s still not debuted) to take on the Velveteen Dream. Another good title match for Dream, Murphy’s last match before vanishing into the ether. Poor guy.
  • Women’s Title: Shayna Baszler vs. Kairi Sane (49:44) – The last chapter of my WWE feud of the year in 2018. A good angle follows, setting up the TakeOver title match.

April 24, 2019

  • War Raiders vs. Street Profits (27:10) – This was the War Raiders (Viking Raiders? War Experience?) first NXT appearance since debuting on the main roster, and the Profits have another awesome sub-10-minute tag match. Full Sail comes alive for the Profits more than almost anyone else, and I’ll have more on that later.
  • Johnny Gargano vs. Roderick Strong (40:05) – Yeah. A straight-up TV main event with arguably two of the top ten wrestlers in the company. You don’t need me to tell you this was good, I’m just here to tell you it happened.

May 1, 2019

  • Kassius Ohno vs. KUSHIDA (38:12) – KUSHIDA’s NXT debut. Ohno, who I thought was written off, came back to help showcase the new guy…again. KUSHIDA looked good though.

May 8, 2019

  • Adam Cole vs. Matt Riddle (31:28) – Just another TV main event. A bit of a confusing finish considering where both guys are slotted at TakeOver, but the post-match continues the dissension that has been building between the Undisputed Era since New York.

May 15, 2019

  • Tag Team Titles: Viking Raiders vs. Street Profits (First segment starts the show, match begins at 47:37) – Watch this to see how the titles ended up vacant for TakeOver. This felt like a great chance to give Full Sail something instead of a bunch of Vanessa Borne squash matches and get the titles onto the Street Profits, especially since the Raiders are leaving anyway. But alas, it was not to be.

May 22, 2019

  • Velveteen Dream Segment (21:52) – See how the North American Title match at TakeOver came together.
  • Matt Riddle and Johnny Gargano vs. The Undisputed Era (Fish & O’Reilly) (45:16) – A good tag team main event, and more build for TakeOver.

May 29, 2019

  • Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan vs. The Forgotten Sons (43:23) – This quickly devolves into a big brawl with all the teams in the Tag Team Title match at TakeOver. You know I wouldn’t make you watch a Bums of Anarchy match unless it was absolutely necessary.

Not as many hidden gems as there was last time, but still some good stuff here. Thanks for reading and as always, enjoy NXT TakeOver!
