WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2018 MATCH
Zack Sabre Jr. & Taichi (6) Def. Shota Umino & Ayato Yoshida (0)

Now, I know I’ve been singing high praise for the Young Lion team, but after 5 matches, they’re getting a bit too similar now and if it keeps going like this, I am not sure I’ll last another 8 of these. This isn’t to say the work is bad, its far from it but the restriction on especially what Shota can do offensively is starting to put a strain on my enjoyment of these matches since it feels like I’m watching them every night. However, like always he showed great babyface fire and showed off some great near falls. Everyone one was completely competent as well. **3/4

WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2018 MATCH
Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith Jr. (8) Def. Yuji Nagata & Manabu Nakanishi (2)

What do you want me to say about this match? It’s the exact same 2nd match on the card that Nagata and Nakanishi have been having, totally inoffensive but lacks any excitement. Nagata has a great theme and the 13-year-old me is digging Killer Elite Squads new theme. **1/4

WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2018 MATCH
Hangman Page & Yujiro Takahashi (6) Def. Togi Makabe & Toa Henare (2)

I really enjoyed this match! The closing stretch, in particular, was awesome; it had some great near falls, cool comebacks, and counters. Hangman and Henare have been really good all tournament and Yujiro has been impressive for his usual standards. Makabe has been a drag; I’ve said this now for 8 straight reviews, but Henare and whoever their opponents have been for the most part have kept the standard up. ***1/2

WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2018 MATCH
Minoru Suzuki & Takashi Iizuka (4) Def. Beretta & Chuckie T (6)

This was heading to ‘badmatchville’ but when The Best Friends started their comeback it certainly stepped up. Iizuka is such a waste of a spot on the roster and I feel like we aren’t getting much effort out of Suzuki, which I can’t blame him for. He was a pretty good however in the closing stretch. ***

WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2018 MATCH
EVIL & SANADA (8) Def. Satoshi Kojima & Hiroyoshi Tenzan (4)

I might be the high man here for this match. I am an LIJ mark, so I normally enjoy their matches a bit more than the standard match. I’ll give it the gentleman’s three for SANADA doing the Tenzan chops to Tenzan. ***

WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2018 MATCH
Tomohiro Ishii & Toru Yano (8) Def. Juice Robinson & David Finlay (6)

The match of the night! If this was earlier in the tournament or in other years this might’ve got a higher rating but comparatively to the top 5 or so matches so far this tournament, this was a just a step below in my opinion. Doesn’t take away the fact that this was still a really good match. Tag teams that are quite clearly friends in real life are so much fun to watch and this is obviously the case with Finjuice. The Yano comedy wasn’t even as heavy in this match, which helped it. ***1/2

WORLD TAG LEAGUE 2018 MATCH
Michael Elgin & Jeff Cobb (4) Def. Tama Tonga & Tanga Loa (6)

Boy, oh boy these teams aren’t doing it for so far. The bad ref bumps and the interference are so tiresome, but at least the babyfaces overcame it this time. Last year was a better individual showcase for Cobb, but hey he got the pin here. Three stars for the Cobb pinfall. ***

Final Thoughts:

A night I feel fell victim to the good teams of the tournament facing off against the weaker teams, which means the match quality was just sort of okay. I would go out of your way to way to watch the 3rd and 6th match though especially since they’re only about ten minutes long. No clear leaders yet, with three teams on 8 points and five teams on 6 points.
