Ring of Honor & New Japan Pro Wrestling
Global Wars – Night 2
May 15, 2015
Ted Reeve Arena – Toronto, Ontario
NJPW and ROH return to the Ted Reeve Arena for Night 2 of Global Wars. This is the last of four joint shows between the two companies and after a busy week, expect a few guys to take it easy. With that said, Night 2 still features a few standout matches including Roderick Strong vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and a main event featuring Bullet Club taking on CHAOS.
KUSHIDA vs. Will Ferrara
Joe Lanza (@JoeMLanza): Night two reminds me of one of those year ending Korakuen Hall shows loaded with odd singles matches. Obvioulsy this is a big spot for Ferrara, and hopefully it’s not laid out as a short, five minute TV match.
Prediction: KUSHIDA
Warren Taylor (@TeddyNoir): Will Ferrara can really go. He has the chance to impress against one of the better juniors on the New Japan roster.
Prediction: KUSHIDA
Aaron Bentley (@aaron_bentley): I fear Joe’s concern about this being a TV match is well-founded. Ferrara has been interesting so far in ROH and I look forward to seeing what he can do with KUSHIDA.
Prediction: KUSHIDA
Gedo vs. Michael Elgin
Joe Lanza: I’m making up my own storyline for this one. Elgin, tired of being overlooked, is going to finally earn his way into the G1 by defeating the man who has refused to call his number.
Prediction: Michael Elgin
Warren Taylor: This will be the most important match of Elgin’s week if he wants to go to Japan.
Prediction: Michael Elgin
Aaron Bentley: I mean, this is obviously intended as Elgin versus New Japan’s booker, right? That’s what we are supposed to see this as? Otherwise, the coincidence is astounding. Elgin will be as motivated as ever here and I would kind of enjoy watching him destroy Gedo and then cut a scathing promo.
Prediction: Michael Elgin
Dalton Castle vs. Jushin Thunder Liger
Joe Lanza: Wut?
Prediction: Dalton Castle
Warren Taylor: A peacock vs. a man dressed like an anime character. Are we sure Quack did not book this match? Turn your brain off for this one folks and you will enjoy every second of it.
Prediction: Jushin Thunder Liger
Aaron Bentley: If you’ve read my ROH reviews, and I know you haven’t, you know I have less than zero interest in the Dalton Castle character. I just hope it’s short.
Prediction: Jushin Thunder Liger
Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson vs. The Kingdom
Joe Lanza: I can’t imagine anybody who has followed this feud has any interest whatsoever in this match.
Prediction: It’ll stink
Warren Taylor: We have our bathroom break match!
Prediction: Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson
Aaron Bentley: Well, Maria *is* attractive. So this match has that going for it.
Prediction: The Kingdom
ACH & Matt Sydal vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi & Tetsuya Naito
Joe Lanza: Now THIS is how you utilize Matt Sydal.
Prediction: Hiroshi Tanahashi & Tetsuya Naito
Warren Taylor: Tanahashi rests during this match while Naito turns the house down with Sydal and ACH.
Prediction: ACH & Matt Sydal
Aaron Bentley: If Tanahashi isn’t dead after the Roderick Strong match, he will be after facing Elgin on Night 1. So, as is customary for a Tanahashi tag match, he’ll chill on the outside while ACH & Sydal put this thing on their shoulders. ACH, Sydal, and Naito is more than enough to make for a great bout.
Prediction: ACH & Matt Sydal
Roderick Strong vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
Joe Lanza: The potential tour stealing match, depending greatly on whether they click. Nakamura didn’t have the best chemistry with Kevin Steen last year. Nakamura should win here but an upset wouldn’t completely shock me if Strong is New Japan bound for G1 or otherwise.
Prediction: Shinsuke Nakamura
Warren Taylor: Roddy and Nak are going to beat the stuffing out of each other. I can’t wait!
Prediction: Shinsuke Nakamura
Aaron Bentley: My lukewarm feelings about Roderick Strong haven’t changed since our War of the Worlds preview. Still, Nakamura rarely fails to deliver. Unlike the matchup with Steen, there won’t be any charisma competition in this one.
Prediction: Shinsuke Nakamura
B.J. Whitmer vs. Moose
Joe Lanza: The Moose mega push rolls on, but is he GFW bound for good? The level of his ROH push moving forward will sort of allow us to gauge the temperature on that.
Prediction: Moose
Warren Taylor: Meh.
Prediction: Moose
Aaron Bentley: Whitmer destroys just about any interest I could have in this match. Moose is definitely improving but I’m not sure Whitmer is the guy to showcase what Moose can do. Since these are taping for TV, does Jay Briscoe somehow play a role?
Prediction: Moose
A.J. Styles & The Young Bucks vs. Beretta, Kazuchika Okada & Rocky Romero
Joe Lanza: With all of the hype surrounding the cool singles matches getting all of the attention, the smart money is probably on the Bucks & Styles to be involved in the standout matches of the tour when all is said and done.
Prediction: A.J. Styles & The Young Bucks
Warren Taylor: If this match goes on last than it will send the crowd home happy. Expect a high energy affair during this trios bout.
Prediction: A.J. Styles & The Young Bucks
Aaron Bentley: This should be another one of those show-closing spotfests that garner several “this is awesome” chants and finish strong. A.J. and The Young Bucks are two of the most over acts in North America and the best way to finish this tour is with the Bullet Club celebrating in the middle of the ring.
Prediction: A.J. Styles & The Young Bucks
