They Said It…

“What’s the plans for the…but what do you call the Pena Cup?”
“Antonio Pena Cup, I believe it’s called.”- Court Bauer and Konnan break it down

“If you could Stunner anyone in the world right now, who would it be?”
“Barack Obama, next question.” –A caller and Steve Austin discuss politics.

The Usual Suspects

Talk n’ Shop (10/11/14): Alex Koslov talks to Doc, Karl, and Rocky about his career and growing up as a Russian immigrant in America. There’s a bit too much talking over each other and they don’t get into a lot of wrestling, but Koslov has some fun tidbits, including thinking Hulk Hogan was only an action star, and being confused when he showed up on a WCW PPV. THUMBS IN THE MIDDLE

MLW Radio (10/12/14): Konnan, Court, and MSL are back for the first time in forever to run down all the news in a lengthy show. Best of all is a discussion about who they would have Steve Austin face in a possible Wrestlemania match. Worst of all is Court letting everyone know Austin is supposedly calling him (twice!). THUMBS UP

Piper’s Pit (10/13/14): Piper is joined by Brannon Smith, who hosts a ghost-hunting show called Ghost Asylum and they talk about ghosts. Smith is a big Andre the Giant fan, which is nice, but unless you’re a huge fan of these shows you’re not missing much. THUMBS DOWN

Who’s Next With Goldberg (10/14/14): Bill talks to former NFL players Chris Doleman and Victor Green. Bill is in his glory as he and Doleman go on about how soft today’s NFL players are (really?) and how awful modern life is (take a drink every time he says mediocrity). Green then comes on and Bill gets to espouse his pro-corporal punishment stance. Green also thinks Roger Goodell is doing a great job!!! None of this is any fun or enjoyable. THUMBS DOWN

Steve Austin Show (10/14/14): Steve takes listener calls for the whole show, which doesn’t sound appealing, but pretty much all the discussion is about wrestling, and there are some interesting topics discussed, including Austin’s account of getting his neck broken by Owen Hart and whether Stone Cold is planning a return to the ring. THUMBS UP

Talk is Jericho (10/15/14): Darryl “DMC” McDaniels joins Jericho to go over the history of Run DMC, the early days of rap, touring with Lou Reed, jazz bands in Japan, and working with Aerosmith. DMC is a very energetic guest and has lots of great stories. Best of all is RUN DMC’s reaction to the original lyrics of “Walk This Way,” which they deemed “hillbilly gibberish.” THUMBS UP

The Ross Report (10/15/14): Two guests this week, as JR talks to WWE author Brian Shields and WWE artist Brian Schamberger. Both men are clearly big fans and the conversation is pleasant enough, but the stories aren’t terribly interesting and the show is skippable. THUMBS DOWN

Bauer & Pollock (10/15/14): B&P recap Hell in a Cell build, ads on the Network, TNA Bound for Glory and the future of the company, PWG, NJPW, and more on Lucha Underground. It’s a breezy but comprehensive listen that flies by. THUMBS UP

Art of Wrestling (10/16/14): CM Punk joins Colt for the intro and outro, but doesn’t say a whole lot (he doesn’t like it when people take his picture in public, shocker). Dave Prazak is the actual guest this week, and he has a lot of fun stories about his early newsletter, getting into independent wrestling, and founding SHIMMER. Unfortunately, there are audio problems on several segments of the show that render them essentially unlistenable. THUMBS IN THE MIDDLE

Steve Austin – Unleashed (10/16/14): Something different, as Steve uses the show to provide audio commentary for his Wrestlemania XVII match against the Rock. Make sure you watch the match as you listen to the show (and it’s on Youtube as well as the WWE Network), as Austin drops a lot of great tidbits. You get to hear Austin critique Rock’s elbow shots, Steve’s brother vs. Rock’s mom, and why Austin was drinking Budweiser post match. An experiment that works wonderfully, don’t be surprised if a lot of other wrestler podcasts soon follow suit. THUMBS UP

Jim Cornette Experience (10/16/14): This week features a long intro as Jim recaps a recent Rolling Stone article on Barack Obama and rants about Ebola. Make sure you jump right to the main interview, as Brian Elliot of Fighting Spirit Magazine joins to discuss the process of putting out a wrestling magazine in 2014 vs. the format’s heyday in the 70’s and a fascinating discussion the history of British wrestling. THUMBS UP

Talk is Jericho (10/17/14): Jericho talks to the Miz and Justin Roberts. Roberts was let go from the WWE this week, but the interview was taped months ago, so no talk about his release. Still, it’s a fun conversation as the three bust on each other, discuss the nuances of ring announcing, and detail Justin’s skills with the ladies. Inexplicably, not only is Colt Cabana mentioned, so is Dave Prazak’s hotline. THUMBS UP
