The podcast week in review, brought to you by Dish Network.

Someone asked me, so here are all the shows I routinely listen to besides the ones routinely covered here: all the F4W shows (minus MMA content and Wrestling Weekly), I Heart DG, Justin Shapirshow, Leave the Memories Alone, List ‘em & Learn, Luchaworld Podcast, Titans of Wrestling, Viva Chikara, the Voices of Wrestling family of podcasts (of course!), Wrestlefolks, Wrestlenomics, Wrestling Culture, & Where the Big Boys Play.
John Pollock is on assignment in Halifax, so no Bauer & Pollock this week. This was n amazing week for podcasts, all in all.

The Usual Suspects

Talk n’ Shop (9/27/14): Part 2 with Bob Sapp, as the Beast goes into his heyday as a star in Japan and his falling out with K-1. The stories of how K-1 was dicking him over on money are amazing. Bob remains hyper-charismatic and this is another breezy listen. Only complaint – they didn’t ask Bob about his recent foray into wrestling in North Korea. THUMBS UP

MLW Radio (9/28/14): Kevin Sullivan joins Court and MSL to discuss Gary Hart (of course!), Florida, and the Dungeon of Doom. Sullivan can be a bit of a, uh, methodical speaker, and some tidbits we have been heard before, but it’s rare to get insight from someone who was in the trenches during both the territorial days and the Monday Night War. THUMBS UP

Piper’s Pit (9/29/14): Don “The Dragon” Wilson joins Roddy to talk his kickboxing career and various projects. Wilson is a very charismatic guest and the stories about the early days of kickboxing are very interesting, but the best parts are his adventures as a B movie actor working with Roger Corman. THUMBS UP

Who’s Next With Goldberg (9/30/14): Edge (yes, an actual wrestler) joins Bill, and amazingly, most of the conversation is actually about wrestling, specifically working with Hulk Hogan, injuries, and using the spear. Edge is an upper tier podcast guest and he doesn’t repeat too much material here, so not even Bill can mess this up. The only downside is a lengthy tangent about both men’s role in society as role models. THUMBS UP

Steve Austin Show (9/30/14): “Diamond” Dallas Page hangs out with Steve and talks some yoga, but again it’s a mostly wrestling-centric show. Some good stories about getting Scott Hall into WCW and a car trip with Jake Roberts and Kevin Nash. If you’re burnt out on DDP, you can probably skip this show, but taken on its own, it’s Austin’s best show in weeks. THUMBS UP

Talk is Jericho (10/1/14): Hornswaggle talks to Jericho about his childhood, wrestling, and movies. ‘Swaggle has an interesting backstory growing up as a dwarf in an average sized family, and the challenges that come with having an average sized child. And then there are stories of everyone trying to hit Tommy Dreamer in the nuts. You may want to pass this one seeing who the guest is, but it’s definitely worth a listen. THUMBS UP

The Ross Report (10/1/14): Magnum TA is the guest as he talks about getting scammed by Buzz Sawyer, time in Mid South and Crockett, broadcasting, raising Tully Blanchard’s kids, and life after the crash. It’s a thorough, honest, and at times inspiring show. THUMBS UP

Art of Wrestling (10/2/14): Cliff Compton returns for the 200th anniversary of his first appearance. Cliff and Colt discuss Cliff’s near miss returns with the WWE, Colt’s thoughts on all the new podcasts popping up, and a great story about Cliff working a bachelorette party. With shows this good, Colt needs to consider inviting certain guests back more often. THUMBS UP & BEST OF THE WEEK

Steve Austin – Unleashed (10/2/14): Steve drives around Atlanta with Chris Collins, who is the Host Coordinator of Redneck Island. They do errands, talk about the process of making shows, football, texting, sneakers, and other topics. It’s all rather dull. THUMBS DOWN

Jim Cornette Experience (10/2/14): Jim sits down with JJ Dillon to talk about a bunch of topics, from Eddie Graham booking, partying with the Horsemen, and a great bit about the angle where the Horsemen turned on Lex Luger. A must for old-school wrestling fans. THUMBS UP

Talk is Jericho (10/3/14): Adult film actress Asa Akira is on the show to talk about her new book, Asian stereotypes, smoking crack, and having a fleshlight made of her, um, anatomy. Not one to listen to with the kids, to be sure, but certainly an interesting interview. THUMBS UP
